All early retirement options do is shift the tax burden from the locals to the state. And the only way it saves any money is if that position is never refilled, which is rarely the case.

It certainly appears that there is more energy among our politicians to improve tier 2 pensions than there is to take from pensioners. Improving pension benefits is more likely than trying to steal from existing pensioners. Such is Illinois.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
