Wall Street brains contemplate Biden dropping out of race and Pritzker as replacement – Wirepoints

By: Mark Glennon*

Top executives in the financial world and research reports by financial advisers are saying it’s clearly plausible that Pres. Joe Biden could drop out of the race and be replaced, perhaps, by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker or California Gov. Gavin Newsom, two possibilities mentioned by name.

That’s according to a recent column by Charles Gasparino, veteran financial reporter formerly with the Wall Street Journal and CNBC, now with Fox Business Network, known for his connections with Wall Street bigwigs.

Biden’s failing mental condition is the reason, Gasparino says, and the scenario of his withdrawal from the election is making the rounds on Wall Street. “You hear it in private dinners with top execs I’m privy to,” he says, and “increasingly in research reports floating around among financial advisers, including one recently published by the investment firm Piper Sandler that I got my hands on.”

Biden’s withdrawal could throw the Democratic Party and country into chaos, Gasparino’s sources say. If Biden is nominated or on the verge when he dropped out is “where, I am told, the bartering and the confusion begins,” Gasparino says.

Kamala Harris might then inherit the mantle “unless,” as Gasparino put it, “some real players, like California Gov. Gavin Newsom or Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois, do something crazy at the convention or shortly after, bend some rules and stage a do-over for the nomination.”

A messier “doomsday scenario” addressed by the Piper report Gasparino referenced is Biden dropping out after being nominated — “again a possibility given his declining health,” Gasparino reported. “That could set up a nasty, last-minute battle for a spot on the ticket with lots of uncertainty for the markets.”

But maybe Biden drops out before the end of the year, Gasparino says, and “the sooner the better,” according to Piper’s analysis. It allows Newsom and Pritzker time to get on state ballots and offer an opportunity for Democratic voters to nominate someone less lame than Biden or Harris, who has failed at every task given her (the border at the top of the list).”

Smart people in finance have good reasons to get this right, for reasons Gasparino also explains. Many financial firms fear the volatility that could easily spike if a nomination fight erupts. Others would profit from the instability. “Not knowing if a presidential nominee — currently president, no less — is sentient is certainly something that could roil markets and provide an opening for traders to take advantage of price dislocations,” Gasparino wrote.

Surely, however, Pritzker is not the kind of ambitious opportunist who would “do something crazy at the convention or shortly after, bend some rules and stage a do-over for the nomination” as Gasparino imagines. Right?

This column was updated to add that Gasparino is now with Fox Business Network.

The headline says “Wall Street Brains.” Is that a joke? There are no brains involved if they are considering Pritzker. Are these the same brains ready for the stock market to crash? Just asking.

Hell yeah, I’d love JB to be the Dem choice! Let him run on his Illinois record. I’m leaving your corrupt state JB, and leaving a legacy of a life in IL. Stuff it, you tyrant.

JB’s record of progressivism will be a badge of honor in the primaries. He’ll attack California for not being crazy enough and he’ll point out how IL went even crazier by making gender neutral restrooms. Whomever wins the primary doesn’t really have to ‘run on their record’ in the general election. Dems have a ballot harvesting machine that will harvest at least 81,000,000 votes, like they did for Biden. Biden is in the bottom 5 presidents ever but got the most votes of any president in history. Candidate quality doesn’t matter one iota to Democrats. There’s a real possibility Dems… Read more »

You are expressing my thoughts exactly. But the real reason is the vast increase in 3rd world population bases through both legal and illegal immigration. Overwhelmingly vote for Democrats. That is why the open borders. Of course everyone knows this but only a few have the guts to state it. And those in the GOP leadership will NOT say it- or do anything about it.

He should drop out of the race and get someone that will break up unions. Illinois public employee unions are the filthy cancer that is killing Illinois

A governor whose priorities are all about enabling crime, robbing taxpayers, lining the pockets of crooked unions, and putting sex pervert groomer pedophiles in charge of schools. He is the perfect vessel for the Democrat party

JB would be happy to write big checks to Joe, Hunter and any number of other Bidens if they would exit stage left. He spent $100+ million just to be governor of Illinois. He dreams nightly of being POTUS. I have a nightmare.

I believe JB spent close to 1/3rd of a billion ($323,000,000 may be accurate) in the last two elections. Think of how many small businesses could be started with that kind of money or 1,292- $250,000 homes. If someone spends that kind of money to be a politician what is expected in return? It’s not just power so what will he get down the road?

I suggest that the writers of this blog make provisions to protect accumulated Pritzker data, in case of ‘accidental death’. Anyone who writes negative fact-based comments about Pritzker has presumably done so, including (but not limited to) offline archived copies of screen shots of scrub-able internet content related to his various allegedly corrupt actions including but not limited to Berrios granting non-uniform vacant/uninhabitable property tax assessment reduction for Astor St. mansion (and contradictory PTAB ruling on different property), Pritzker investment in Centene before screwing over various poor/blind/disabled Medicaid recipients in order to facilitate Centene monopoly merger and resulting Illinois mega-contract… Read more »

Newsom terrifies me. Media and college educated women will fawn over him. As terrible and communist as he is, and though he’s ruined CA, he would curb stomp Trump in a general election.

Know that they are all puppets. Be terrified not of whoever they elect. Be terrified that the unelected CIA, State Dept., NSA, FBI, Military and military industry, etc. are all really running things and that they have all gone woke. A president is just for show now. Elected representational democracy and a great constitution was good while it lasted, be afraid that that is now all over. The unelected, woke bureaucracies have all the power, presidents are puppets now. The president is imaginary, nothing to fear.

And curb stomp Trump? You underestimate the number of Trump supporters, and Newsom’s California condition is full of ready made Campaign ads that Trump could use to put Gov. Hair gel in his place.
I cannot people would be truly stupid enough to give Newsome his shot.

There’s 75,000,000 Trump supporters. If you didn’t vote for Trump in Nov 2020, then you’re not Trump supporter. My guess is that absent insane ballot harvesting and fraud, Biden had roughly the same number of actual voters in 2020. Which is completely insane, because Obama the most popular presidential candidate ever, in his wave year, during the middle of the GFC, had only 69,498,516 votes, but Biden, campaigning from his basement, had 81,000,000 votes. A Gruesome Newsom vs. Trump campaign, without balloting fraud, would be a close one, with the race decided by 100,000 votes or less in a handful… Read more »

BIDEN IS NOT GOING TO DROP OUT! Don’t even think about it. He is too egotistical, dementia rattled and necessary to the future success(?) of the Democrat party. Even his wife won’t let him drop out. He has to stay and protect his pathetic son OR his son and probably the whole family, will turn on him and take him down. At one time, foreign governments were supporting Joe, and now Joe is supporting the Democrat party and the media. Payback is a bitch.

What are they smoking? The majority of the country sees IL and CA as failed states-huge population loss, loss of House reps, billions of AGI lost, per IRS, and huge budget and pension deficits. And these governors are in denial and think it doesn’t reflect on them? We left IL for SC and still get sympathy looks when we said we came from IL. How many of y’all’s governors went to jail? Pritzker and Newsome are jokes in most of the other states.

Half the country LOVES progressive values. They can’t get enough of it. And the Democrat intraparty battle is a Game of Thrones fighting for the spoils of the presidency, it has nothing to do with Democracy or who is more popular. Their ballot harvesting machine got 81,000,000 votes in 2020 for Biden, they’ll get 84,000,000 for the next Democrat prez candidate, no matter who it is, Weekend at Bernies or whomever

I’d enjoy watching JB and Newsom in the national spotlight every day fighting over which of their two states is the progressive poster child for what they’d inflict on the rest of the country. Of course, the success of the Dem’s strategy of helping Trump tromp all the other Republican presidential candidates in the polls has given the Dem’s lots of room and time to be silly in. No way a unifying Republican presidential candidate breaks into the news cycle when the Republican ‘side’ of the national news remains a tale of Trump vs some Dem DOJ prosecutor, or Trump… Read more »

Trump had 74,000,000 votes in 2020, blowing away Obama’s landslide record of 70,000,000 votes in 2008. Trump is not the problem, he can bring out the Republican voters. Don’t listen to anyone who says Trump is the problem. He’ll get that many votes in 2024 too.

The problem is Biden’s supposed 81,000,000 votes, which also blew away Obama’s 2008 record. Democrats really, really want to believe the 2020 election was completely legit, and not full of all kinds of fraud and shenanigans, and mock you for suggesting otherwise, just as we told Hillary supporters to ‘cry more’ in 2016.

The court have seen lots of lawsuits on this matter. For every lawsuit brought by Trump and his supporters the courts basically have said in their verdict “where’s the beef?” Its all fluff like cotton candy. There’s no “there” there in spite of your oft-stated insistence otherwise.

Dems are ignoring their current poll leader RFK. Because he tells the truth, about Ukraine, the CIA, covid, intubators, experimental vaccines, military industrial complex, endless wars against goat-herder countries, etc. The world no longer trusts the US, we don’t honor contracts, treaties, and we threaten anyone who doesn’t agree with our woke values with sanctions basically confiscation of dollar reserves those countries paid for, theft. Illinois is in decline, but so is the whole country. This is why the dems are ignoring RFK and will destroy him in favor of another woke puppet like Biden. Gasperino’s appeal to authority logical fallacy (“You hear it in private dinners with top execs I’m privy to,” and research papers) shows that his guess is just as good as mine. My guess, which is just as good as Gasperino’s, is that Biden isn’t running anything, he’s just a figurehead for the Regime, which primarily consists of Jill Biden, his chief-of-staff, a handful of cabinet member and several of his advisors, these are the cabal actually in charge. Those in power right have no intention of giving up their unelected power and they’ll prop up Biden not too dissimilar from… Read more »

We can only speculate at this time but if somehow JB makes a last minute quick dash (slow walk) to be the nominee for president or VP and ends up winning he would legislate some sort of pension bailout. This should help all the public unfunded liabilities. Question? How will this help taxpayers? Do we owe less if that happens? Will taxes be lowered?

As much as JB the Hutt obviously WANTS to be president, I really don’t see him being the actual Dem nominee, even if Newsom doesn’t run. It would be very hard to get Affluent White Female Liberal (aka AWFL) voters as excited about JB the Hutt as they would about a more, ahem, easy on the eyes guy like Newsom, or any female candidate (including Kamala, or maybe Gretchen Whitmer, or even, God help us, the return of Hillary). “JB and Michelle sounds like a winning combination” On the surface it does and since Barack and Michelle no longer have their legal residence in Chicago AFAIK, that would eliminate the electoral vote issue of both Pres and VP being from the same state (a possible concern with a Trump/DeSantis ticket). However, I dunno that having both candidates be “from” Chicago is going to go over very well nationally. Also dunno how well Pritzker would do against either Trump or DeSantis. If it ended up being Pritzker vs. DeSantis, the RNC could run 24/7 commercials featuring ex-Illinois residents who’ve moved… Read more »

Sick and twisted. Almost all IL/Chicago key metrics are at or close to the bottom of all 50 states. Maga wackos would love Pritzker as the Dem candidate. Same with Newsome.

Maga is also gonna have fun with Chicago too during the Dem convention, cause IL/Chicago exhibits, to a high degree, most of the stuff (concerns) maga is selling. Recommend Biden and the Dem party start now to clean up Chicago/IL in prep for the Aug 2024 Dem convention.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
