Was corruption at the heart of Illinois’ gas tax hike? – IL Policy

Capital bills are a feeding frenzy for special interests. And Sandoval held the keys to the kitchen. “Governor signs Sandoval’s $45 billion infrastructure improvement package,” boasts a June press release from the state senator’s website. Might the feds want to have a word about some of those projects? According to the Chicago Tribune, authorities are looking into allegations Sandoval used his public office to steer business in exchange for private kickbacks.

We also have to be wary of the FBI they are very political as well. It’s hard to trust the FBI will go after democrats after the last election.

Could someone clarify. Dem Senators received $6M vs Rep $3M and House Dems $3M vs Rep $1.5M . So if a Republican voted for this did they get the the full amount of 6M or 3M or just 1/2? Does enticing a lawmaker to vote for this bill in exchange for either receiving MORE $$ or less and or none for their district constitute a form of bribery from the enticer?? That would be a difficult situation for a lawmaker to be in. How would they explain this to their constituents by losing funding if they voted against ? They… Read more »

It’s call Horse Trading. The Rub is that Repubs got 33% of the money while Dems got 66% of the money. That’s roughly the pattern of the supermajorities in the legislature.

But R vs D turnout in 2018 was a lot different and less favorable to Democrats. Tubby McFatso received only 55% of the state wide votes while R Rauner only got 39%. Hardly a 66/33 split. Statewide the R v D raw number voter split in the legislature is roughly similar.

But that’s gerrymandering!

Of course corruption was at the heart of the Illinois gas tax hike. Corruption is at the heart of every Illinois tax hike.

Funny headline.
Why wouldn’t there be corruption at the heart of Illinois’ gas tax hike? After all it is Illinois isn’t it?

Does anyone even doubt there was corruption ? The title of the article must be tongue in cheek. Of course there was corruption. Just pass the money around with no,plan to democrats. Republicans(?) get the scraps. But all will misuse the funds and we will pay like sheep with no choice in the matter. Funny how all of our “representatives” in Springfield just pass these insane spending bills. They represent us. I wonder if they asked “us” about any of this spending whether we would agree with them.I think not. We have no representation.

Think of all the unfunded mandates handed down to communities from Springfield. Even though HB0788 may allow an exemption there are lots of hoops communities have to jump thru with a huge cost to taxpayers trying to comply with the rules like public hearings/proving hardship/etc.

Never heard of Sandoval before but from the article, it looks like he is a pretty high-ranking lieutenant in the Madigan Mob.

Go Feds, go! Keep tightening that noose!

This is a dismal set of circumstances, and it shows just how compliant the media is in Illinois and Chicago. The state is broker than broke, but needs a capital construction plan because there wasn’t one of size when Rauner was in office. So of course they don’t do it by rationalizing the projects with the best return and greatest need, but rather proceed along the lines of a plan reflecting political favoritism. And if it is true that Sandoval put projects in the plan through acceptance of bribes, there is no hope for Illinois. Again we must await judgment but… Read more »

The media isn’t just compliant, they are actively advocating for the Democratic Party because they ARE the Democratic party. They are interchangeable, they have each other’s emails and cell phone numbers programmed in their phones. They socialize together, they marry each other. It only exists because people read the news. I install adblockers everywhere I read the news just to do my part to put them out of business. And when they go out of business, I’ll go back to reading about video gaming or gardening. I just don’t care!

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
