Watchdog Over Illinois Legislature Announces Her Resignation, Calling The Position ‘A Paper Tiger’ – WBEZ (Chicago)

In her resignation letter, Carol Pope lambasted an ethics package state lawmakers approved earlier this spring that is awaiting action by Gov. JB Pritzker. “This last legislative session demonstrated true ethics reform is not a priority. The [Legislative Inspector General] has no real power to effect change or shine a light on ethics violations.”

Which one of the esteemed local news journalists will have the temerity to ask JB for his reaction to what Ms Pope said? My guess would be nobody.

Hardly surprising.

The Fed’s investigate-n-prosecute political corruption in Illinois and (eventually) actually send at least a few rules-for-thee-but-not-for-me politicians and insiders to prison.

The Illinois OIG “investigates” fraud, finds little or nothing most of the time, and does little or nothing to folks whose crimes were so egregious they couldn’t be swept under the carpet.

School fraud, embezzlement, and spending/fund transfers in violation of law are common.
Systems could be easily put in place to prevent such fraud, if parents would only stand up and insist upon it.

Checks and Balances are fundamental in a Democracy – Our Founders understood that. Yet in Illinois the supermajority Democrats want mob rule.

Sounds like Ms Pope wanted to at least have a basic structure in place to promote ethics. Yet even that was not allowed by Pritzker and the Democrats.

We pay these people for maybe 25 years of light work and 25 years of retirement in order to make things worse. We store their words and numbers in warehouses or clouds and they take their gold watches to Florida or Arizona. Both law and order diminish as bureaucrats multiply and flourish. Perhaps as we return to the state of nature the survivors, finding themselves at square one, will contrive a better system.

There is no better system. Democracy is the worst form of government, but it’s still better than all the other forms of government. The people of Chicago get the government they deserve.

“The people of Chicago get the government they deserve.”-Many of us realize that the sheople of Chicago have been corralled, abused, mis-educated and fed BS since before any of us were born. When too many of the sheep become aware of what’s going on, there are many ways to rig elections, and populations can easily be tilted by mass illegal immigration. Rile up blacks to burn stuff down for democratic votes? Fine, so when the lid wont go back on the pot of chaos, import millions of folks from south of the border to dilute black power. Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
