‘We’ve got to turn that around,’ Pritzker says of declining population that will cost Illinois a congressional seat – Champaign News-Gazette*

“That’s something that unfortunately before I became governor was a bit set in clay, if not stone. And now, we’re working very hard to make sure we’re going the right direction," Gov. JB Prtizker said. He attributed the population loss primarily to college students who choose not to attend school in the state.

I have a sister who lives in Lake Forest. She is on her way to a red Southern State this summer as soon as her daughter graduates from high school this year. The daughter is on her way to an exceptional out of state school. The family has made millions in the construction trades and lives in a multi million dollar house. Governor “One Man Mob” has only disdain for the productive members of society and thinks they are a never ending fountain of cash for his give away programs. He is wrong. This is a great time for them… Read more »

Good luck to your sister. All the construction business that she would have done will now be completed by a different Illinois firm. So no net loss on the business as far as the state is concerned. Someone else can earn that money and pay the taxes she would have paid.

Why are you waiting until the fall to move? Paying off the house is not needed to make a move. Real estate agents are looking for listings and everything is selling quickly. All of these people leaving the state but plenty of buyers remain.

We just moved into our beautiful custom home yesterday in another state. Couldn’t take the taxes and the violence in Chicago another day.

The numbers are out. Illinois lost about 18k residents in the last 10 years. At that rate of decline in 110 years Illinois will only have 12.6 million residents instead of 12.8 million. Last one out turn out the lights. Oh wait, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

Sure Illinois population has declined but not nearly as much as everyone has been predicting. In fact, it looks like Illinois is over 140k higher than the 2019 estimate. That must suck for the doom and gloom crowd.

As long as those illegal immigrants are counted in the total you might be right

The trend is not your friend PPF. Last year alone we lost 80,000, and with social justice warrior JB at the helm that number may very well accelerate. He has pushed Illinois so far to the radical left that hardworking Illinois residents (not you), will pull up stakes at the first opportunity. Don’t worry, you and the rest of the gang at Crapital Fax can count on another federal bailout at some point, while you dodge bullets. Now go kiss Silly Willy’s tail.

How did we lose 80k last year? Please show your work. Are you referring to the estimated population of (2019) 12.667 million that declined to the estimated (2020) 12.587 million? Is that where you are getting your numbers? The only problem with that is they were only estimates. In fact the OFFICIAL population for Illinois in 2020 is 12.812 million people. So if we use your own numbers from the 2019 estimate then Illinois gained 145k residents instead of losing 80k. The actual numbers were 225k more residents than the estimate for 2020. Now did Illinois actually grow in population?… Read more »

You are a fool wrapped in a moron. You hero JB stuffed the ballot box. There is no valid comparison between the 2010 and 2020 census. Live in your dream world. Idiot.

So instead of offering up facts to dispute my point your resort to name calling? Then you follow it up with JB “stuffed” the ballot box. Did Trump also win even though he had 7 million fewer votes?

Illinois residents should be happy that the state lost fewer people than initially thought. Instead the haters are disappointed.

I will say that you are consistent in your crazy.

I just wasted 10 minutes of my life on my short lunch break reading the Cap Fax comments. And I’m now convinced that one unnamed person on Cap Fax is the same person who posts trolling comments here. The writing has the same quality of ignorance and stupidity wrapped up in a veneer of pompous arrogance. My fav though is how one commenter says, in part, “I wonder if some commentators on here sincerely see Illinois finishing 48th of 50 states in population last decade as a problem & how many see it as something to downplay for the sake… Read more »

Don’t worry, soon they will have their Democratic Dream State called Illinois. Remember, it’s never good to poop in your own litter box!

Kinda funny over on capital fax they deny that it’s due to the taxes and cost of living in the state. They have all sorts of explanations none of which point to the policies our politicians put in place.

Any plan as to how to “turn this around”? Of course not. College students leaving the state? What buffoonery. Look at the statistics about how many fewer $100k tax returns are being filed in Illinois. Has he done even the minimal research to see how may north suburban wealthy folks have changed their residences to out of state. Almost any one in the north suburbs will tell you they personally know dozens.

Better question would be ….did anyone from the drone IL media actually call him out on his completely asinine theory of the reason why IL population decreasing. Out in Mountain states there are tons of people from the usual suspect states buying up in cash any available properties ….it is crazy right now

Can this bloated blow hard be that stupid? College kids are leaving the state of Illinois for a better education and less money. Let’s see, I can send my kid to Eastern Illinois for around 24K with room and board or I can send them to an SEC college Mizzou for and extra 5K. Ummmm tough decision. Did Fat Boy stay in Illinois and go to school, No he went to ultra privilege Duke. Do you think he will send his kids to an Illinois school. I think we know the answer. Illinois…….you get what you vote for!

I understand your sentiments, but Mizzou is roughly 41,000 for out of state tuition and fees while EIU runs just over 22,000 for in state.

TTH

That’s Mizzou’s sticker price. They offer quite a bit of merit for students with a good gpa and test scores. A student from Illinois could easily get $9,500 to $17,200 off tuition with an act score as low as 23. Mizzou also shows incoming students how they can qualify for in state tuition for sophomore year. The issue of students leaving Illinois for other colleges is real. Other states provide incentives for the best and brightest to attend their university at in state tuition levels. We are not only losing Illinois students we are losing our best and brightest. Until… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
