Opinion: Why Aren’t Media Calling Lori Lightfoot a Racist? – Newsweek

a man wearing a mask: Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot arrives at Wrigley Field on April 16, 2020 in Chicago Illinois. Wrigley Field has been converted to a temporary satellite food packing and distribution center in cooperation with the Lakeville Food Pantry to support ongoing relief efforts underway in the city as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of calling out the racism, some in Chicago media used it to fake deep conversations on race—the kinds they learned about in White Fragility. In other words, they were too terrified to be honest about what the mayor was doing. It's not woke to call out a black lesbian mayor, is it? The reaction was embarrassing. Outrage would have been the only appropriate response, but there was little of that.

The Chicago Media is terrified facing death. The tribune is begging for subscribers so citizens can peruse the paper with breakfast; flamin hots and grape pop and the Trib too. The Tribune could survive but they need to make hard decisions, just like Lori does every day on behalf of the sississdens.

The better question is “Why aren’t newspapers praising Lightfoot for her stance against white reporters?”. Based on how media supports all this wokeness, one has to wonder why they don’t support it for their reporters too. So they choose to say nothing.

An incompetent mayor elected by an incompetent voter base that only sees “D” after the name of the candidate explains the whole situation.

Why the Big Silence from media? Because Lightfoot’s announcement complies with SJW woke political agenda, and most media pundits are deathly afraid to contradict that narrative of “equity”, for fear of very real likelihood of hostile vindictive backlash accusation of “being racist”. We’re in an “Emperor Who Has No Clothes” situation, where Lightfoot has ZERO effectiveness, yet local media refuses to meaningfully engage in criticism of her significantly flawed administration and ineffective “mini-me” dictatorial tendencies. Crains recent article offered plenty of kudos to Lightfoot in its evaluation of her 1st term to-date, gentle stuff when in reality Chicago’s governance is… Read more »

What Lightfoot is doing is the most craven of all strategies, working hard to promote racial strife for political gain.

As mark g once said, Chicago is less than 15% white men, they are a much a minority in the city as everyone else.

It’s amusing that Mary Ann Ahern didn’t push further. I wonder why? Could it be because her husband sucks from the government teet as the director of news affairs for the Chicago Police Department? And if Mrs Ahern went too far Groot would likely launch him in one of her many petty, vindictive little fits? This is what happens when you elect a child as mayor of a major city. Those that voted for her deserve everything they are now getting. And everyone wonders why people are flleing the city ant the state in droves.

Looks like many of the white liberal news folks will be out of a job soon in Chi town. Fitting justice!

Let the liberal newspapers like the Times and Tribune cry that they are going bankrupt – or worse – being bought by a conservative! We don’t need local “news” if they don’t report ANYTHING fairly, whether it is crime in Chicago or a racist mayor trying to ignite riots again. I won’t read any of it anymore.

Lost indeed.

It will never come back to what it was.

Such a shame.

The city can’t just flip a switch and expect it all to just go back to normal. Huge mistake on Chicago and IL’s decision making process.

Detroit is actually doing pretty good on crime and rioting during this year. They have a strong police chief, a community that wants police presence and supportive mayor. Chicago is a sinking ship, I vow to not spend a dime there for the rest of my life, including driving to an out of state airport to fly.

I actually think Lightfoot’s move is great. Not for the reasons you might be thinking, though. Critical Race Theory has gotten a hold like a bad virus in our society because of the media. They’ve spread this poison, but always seem to be insulated from it themselves. After all, “journalism” is too important to be deconstructed with equity mandates. It should be an effort of merit, no? But I’m a firm believer that whatever rules you wish to command me to follow, you must follow, yourself. After all, sincerity is always subject to proof. How many articles out of Crain’s,… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
