Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. UPDATE: Joliet, that apparently has more money than they know what to do with, has donated three ambulances to Ford Heights and Robbins. Did they do a comprehensive search as to other municipalities that might have needed them more? Or did they do the PC thing and hand them over to the underserved, that probably have a larger tax base than more than a hundred rural communities? These ambulances were paid for with taxpayer dollars. The three vehicles are going for $1 each. Communists redistributing other people’s money.
Fire 50% of the government (public) employees and nobody will ever notice their absence. This necessary step is absolutely critical in saving this country from the collapse. It will free money to lower property and all other taxes. Stop giving away billions of dollars to American enemies, like Iran Gaza, etc. They can hate us for free. That will free a lot of money to lower or eliminate taxed for thousands of Americans. Elect Trump as the President and a lot problems will be fixed including this woman will be fired.
So class sizes increase from 25 to 50 and no one will notice? Sure Jan.
When half the kids don’t show up for school and half of the ones that bother to have no interest in learning, why not? “ What difference does it make?”. – Hillary Clinton.
Get her email address and sent an email complaining about property taxes
That should fix it.
Massa say you slaves need to eat less and economize. Massa can’t do without. Come on, work harder. Massa lets you losers live there and this is the way you re-pay her.
First off vote this individual out of office she is nothing but a Will county political hack, second nobody has complained about there property taxes far from true everyone in Will county has had enough and I mean enough, must of learned how to lie from Pritzker. Will county has the highest property taxes in the state, fact. What sickens me is that I live in Romeoville and pay property taxes to Lockport Park District, Lockport road funds, Lockport town funds what the hell and you have the gall to tell me to downsize wrong you downsize your government you… Read more »
She’s a tone deaf idiot to come out and say something as stupid as that. Vote her out. Disrespect of taxpayers should result in a recall.
I agree that government bloat in IL needs to be significantly reduced before any out-of-touch government employee tells us to downsize. There are many ways to reduce bloat, including: reduce the number of offices; reduce the number of employees; and reduce salaries, pensions, and health care benefits.
You may agree but the majority of voters don’t. You won’t be able to reduce pensions. Very unlikely that you will be able to reduce salaries. Cutting employees and offices will be your only hope.
Taxes will go up and that’s a fact. She could have said it in a more political way but she told the truth and the truth hurts. People may need to downsize their current spending because the voters don’t seem to want to elect leaders that want to cut government spending.
It’s not gall but honesty. Your assertion that everyone is sick of it just isn’t true. If that was the case voters would make different choices. You and your neighbors are getting the government that you deserve.
The vast majority of Illinoisans and especially Chicagoans are slaves content to do whatever their masters tell them to do. As long as Massa gives them bread and circuses, they’re happy.
Taxes will go up in Illinois and that’s a fact. Corrected that for you. I manage a few properties in Florida. In Florida real estate taxes don’t increase every year, sometimes they go down. Sales tax on rent also fluctuates.
Florida property insurance premiums will soon make Illinois property taxes look like a bargain by comparison. That’s if you can even get coverage without 90 pages of listed exclusions.
Florida real estate prices are already off significantly. It’s days as a draw for people from blue states are probably over.
Spoken like Joe Biden. It’s not as crappy as other places, so therefore be happy with how truly crappy it is. JB another advocate of the same.
So.. tell me how to spend the money that I worked for to hand it over to people that don’t work, never have and never will? Redistributing the wealth, the communists Utopia.
Just another dumb fucking statement from a democrat. When the goverment starts cutting 25% across the board maybe this country would get back to being normal. Spending money the goverment doesn’t have but will take it out of the pockets of hard working people is the democratic way. I have lived in my home 44 years and I will not move until I am dead. My taxes were under 400 dollars 44 years ago and now over 5000 and not one goverment service has changed since. They plow the snow and mow grass and the school has kids that can’t… Read more »
You are paying partly for the inflation that occurred over 44 years, There is likely no one working for remotely similar wages all these years later, and surely your wages told that story as well. Then, government “services” have expanded as well to cover “needs” that were some combination of being considered frills or simply unrecognized in former times. Is that $50k car really “better” than the one you bought 44 years ago as but one example? In short, we live in a world where the $100 bill buys less everywhere than a $10 bill bought in our youth. So,… Read more »
You’re taking him literally and not seriously when you should be taking him seriously and not literally.
Real estate taxes are a huge problem in suburban Cook County. Nearly everywhere else in the country is cheaper.
Pensions and the salaries of overpaid government officials
A cess pool of local government corruption will county has become little Chicago, garbage roads , truck traffic like nobody has ever seen, but politicians think they know what residents want. Take more and more out of our pockets and feed their pet projects
So true. Getting duped into buying the old Catholic High school with the intention of turning it into a rec center and now being stuck with tearing it down and paying big bucks for asbestos abatement, buying other useless pieces of property, losing money at trying to run a ballpark and a waterpark and subsidizing the black hole known as the Rialto theater ( at 500K/ year ) are just a few of the ways Will County ( particularly Joliet ) finds to squander tax revenue. Meanwhile businesses are moving out left and right, the businesses and people that are… Read more »
My parents tell me Joliet was a completely different city in the 60s , as I grew up in the 90s you could across town no problem. It’s nothing but a pipe dream lost cause to try to invent something that’s not possible with the demographics in the area now. Joliet wishes it could get half the foot traffic Plainfield and Naperville gets.
What old Catholic High School was purchased?
JCHS, after they consolidated with St. Francis Academy. An alum sweet talked the city into purchasing the property ( “It’s only a dollar!” ) and now the city is stuck with tearing the eyesore down at great expense. Personally, I think that they should go after the people that advocated this and let them divide the enormous costs going to be incurred to get rid of it. They have fat pensions and can surely pony up for the ill fated deal that they cut.
