Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I see a lot of Illinoisans living near state borders suddenly having an address of convenience in a neighboring state to avoid this tax.
If JB and Democrats would stop stealing the gas tax money, a mileage tax wouldn’t be necessary. The Democrats will probably steal the mileage tax to fund left priorities.
A mileage tax AND sales tax on gas plus tolls? The ACLU would likely object to devices on cars much like they do license plate readers leading to misuse of data by law enforcement. Who will pay the mileage fee for cars driven while stolen 😎
The ACLU won’t care as long as the government is the one collecting the data to charge citizens $$$. Look at all the plate readers on the toll roads that were paid for years ago….and speaking of toll roads will the mileage tax eliminate those?
