My highly educated high school friend just told me that due to Pritzker Illinois is finally in sound fiscal shape. The thing is, looking at the math is so painful that it is easier to accept a palliative narrative. I sort of get it, although think it is delusional. Illinois has lost its way. I see nothing blameworthy about cutting their losses and protecting their families. It will be up to historians to make virtue awards to those with the courage to risk going down with the ship. Who remembers the name of the Captain of the Titanic? This does not mean that there aren’t objectives that warrant sacrifice but trashing Chicago while making it safe for the homeless and undocumented is a difficult case to make.
