It requires an absolute moron to write an article like this. It requires absolute scum to propose the law presented. So you are going to require a crime victim to report the theft of their gun 24 hours sooner, so that the police can begin tracking it sooner? First, do you really believe the police are tracking these thefts. Most of them go unreported because the police don’t respond and when they do, they don’t care. Who exactly is tracking these guns? Second why do most people believe they need guns in their cars? Because they know the police can’t… Read more »

With all due respect, shouldn’t the reporter think critically about this stuff. How about ask the question whether these guns are really being tracked, by whom and how. How about ask the question why so many people feel the need to have a gun handy in gun free Chicago? How does tracking these guns, which they don’t have the manpower to do, really alleviate any crime. The vast majority of shootings in Chicago are unsolved. Why are they making the crime victim responsible for this? It’s an attempt to dissuade people from owning guns legally. The pinhead is too worried… Read more »

Graduates like her give Northwestern/Medill a bad name. Her twitter feed is full of the typical “if it bleeds, it leads” type content interspersed anti-Trump and anti-Republican nonsense. She felt compelled to repost, the second post in her feed, that TRUMP IS A CONVICTED FELON (no he is not, a jury found him guilty, only the judge issues a sentence of conviction, probation, supervision, etc). She is a pinhead, for sure.

If I wanted to traffic illegal weapons without implicating myself, I would leave them some place where they could be easily ‘stolen’.

That scenario was floated and went absolutely nowhere. It seemed like an efficient way to traffic guns. It’s also interesting to note that very few of the 19 arrested for various gun related crimes, er, misdemeanors , including possession of a “ ghost gun “during the Mexican Independence Day week resulted in any serious charges being brought forth. But let’s make more virtue signaling laws that will be likewise ignored.

Reporting changes will make absolutely zero difference to the number of thefts. Police lack the resources to act quickly, and even if they had the manpower, identifying and tracking down a gun thief would be difficult, time-consuming, and likely to fail.

More than anything else, what we have here is criminalization of the victim.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
