Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. These statements are all self inflicted wounds. He is moving from a way out lefty to joke status. Three or four of my Dem friends are wondering what the heck is going on with the guy. For those who have been around government, it is obvious he is either losing any political judgement he once had or his staff has gotten so insulated that they just can’t see straight. Whichever it is, he is rapidly losing any shot at a political future. And no one watches Nickie Wallace any longer anyway.
