1,200 crimes, 1 arrest: Chicago police fail to address boom in air bag thefts – Chicago Sun-Times

Anthony Riccio, who retired as the second-ranking Chicago police official, said the spike in air bag thefts likely means criminals have noticed that police aren’t doing much to combat the problem. Of the more than 1,260 theft cases opened this year, almost 60 percent had already been suspended.

Need to allow legal force for the protection of property, that would stop them,

Police aren’t allowed to pursue a criminal caught in the act. Civilians stand a good chance of being popped by a rifle toting look out if they intervene. Let’s blame the auto companies again- it worked last time.

They’re not allowed to intervene because when someone gets injured, as a result of the criminal negligence of the fleeing and evading felon, Cook County juries just LOVE to award tens of millions of dollars in damages AGAINST THE POLICE. Juries see police involvement as a winning lottery ticket for the Plaintiff. The second order effect of these million dollar jury verdicts (that in many cases, the homeowners of the municipal pay through increased property taxes) is that they simply stop doing police chase and allow criminals to commit all but the most heinous of crimes.
