The company that obtained the first fracking permit in Illinois has announced it won’t use it, citing market conditions and the state’s “burdensome and costly” regulations.

“It’s a disturbing worldview, but this is the political pattern in Illinois: Do everything to benefit those who can deliver money and campaign muscle.
