A pension plan pushed by one Illinois think tank fails to reform the state’s broken pension system and risks repeating costly mistakes. Gov.-elect J.B. Pritzker shouldn’t be fooled and should instead endorse meaningful, lasting reform.

Will our bankrupt state and its equally bankrupt municipalities suddenly explode into a huge ball of fire, blasting unaffordable financial obligations up into the atmosphere?

Or will it be more gradual, striking hither and yon as this impending apocalypse picks and chooses what it will crush first, next and last.

But it’s probably the latter. After all, people commit suicide at times and places of their own choosing. Why should governmental entities be any different when it comes to financial self-destruction?
