“Haunted houses tend to be very enclosed, with not a lot of open space,” Pritzker said. “As a result, the viral load can get high very quickly in a space like that. So that’s why doctors chose to act as they did with regard to haunted houses.”

“For example, Chairman Rep. Emanuel ‘Chris’ Welch asked: ‘Is a public official guilty of bribery because someone tries to bribe them?’ And Rep. Elizabeth Hernandez asked: ‘Is it a crime for a legislator to make a job recommendation to ComEd?'”

Jim Dey: “The amendment’s language, however, has raised concerns that more is at play than just progressive rates. That’s why it’s surprising that, so far at least, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce is the only entity that’s raised concerns about the amendment’s potential use as a vehicle to levy multiple taxes on one income.”

Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana not only says nothing will change, but he says it’s not even in his realm: “What is there to enforce? There’s no criminal code there to enforce and that’s what I’m focusing in on.” Caruana even took it a step further calling the restrictions unconstitutional.

“Democrats could blame the coronavirus pandemic for their failure to reform property taxes, but that would be flat-out dishonest. Illinois property taxes have been studied for decades. Reform is a question of willingness, not of finding time.”

Exelon compliance officer David Glockner didn’t stray far from the wording used in the deferred prosecution agreement at Tuesday’s House Special Investigating Committee.

“I think that they can work around the team’s playing but really the lack of spectators is really going to be the biggest issue,” said Rodney Walker, a Decatur city councilman and basketball coach who has been financing the SkyWalker International Sports Complex during the pandemic. “That is where you generate the revenue from the spectators, so I hope they can find a safe way to play, but I feel sorry for the spectators that want to come out and can’t.”
