In response to questions, the Illinois Department of Public Health said that it is bound by state and federal laws designed to protect the identity of those infected. “Another consideration is the fact that people may not have become infected at the business location,” said department spokesman Melaney Arnold.

Nearly 800 coaches responded to the survey, which collected data on contact days (supervised practices, basically) during this pandemic. Only two coaches reported an outbreak of three to five total cases.
“It’s like buying a car, and then saying like, ‘Oh, you get too good of a deal. Can you give us some money back,'” said Becky DelGeorge. She said she lost a job in the event planning industry.
Several slogans were spray-painted around the scene, including “take your trash with you,” “f— your advisory council, Lori” and “land back.”

Mark Pfister, executive director of the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center, said most schools in the county continue remote learning, some are hybrid, and a small number teach in person. And while data supports more hybrid learning in the area, he adds COVID trends suggest that could change.
“Down here in Region 4, I promise you, I was here, I go to all these counties, I worked in these counties, the overwhelming majority of the small business owners did not close down,” attorney Thomas DeVore said. “The governor doesn’t want you to know that. He won’t tell you that. But that’s the truth because I am here.”

Supporters of changing the state’s flat income tax to one with higher rates on higher earners used a fake Twitter account to promote the progressive tax. They tweeted from @Liz_Uihlein, whose family owns one of the largest companies in Illinois.
“There are signs of financial distress. In New York, 44 hotel loans backed by bonds totaling $1.2 billion are delinquent, according to September data from Trepp, an analytics firm. In second place was Houston, with 39 delinquent loans at $682 million, followed by Chicago with 29 at $990 million.”
“Children get their academic comprehension, but they are also getting their confidence in what it means to be a growing person, in a new environment – in this thing we call school,” said Dr. Christopher Span, education historian from the University of Illinois.
State Representative Delia Ramirez (D-Chicago) said, “Communities across the country are calling for an end to the celebration of Christopher Columbus because to most Native and Indigenous people, he is a symbol of genocide. Illinois must respond to this call.”
“That estimated $100 million in new revenues derived from the graduated income tax would be shared among thousands of municipalities in Illinois through the state’s Local Government Distributive Fund. In the legislative sausage-making that went on in the spring of 2019 to ultimately pass both the constitutional amendment for the November ballot and the actual graduated tax rates to go along with the tax change, the proposal was altered, lowering the original $237 million increase to local governments to just $100 million.”

This bad news comes after homeowners scratched to pay the final installment of the largest property tax hike in Chicago’s history – $589 million phased in over the past four years to pay for pensions for the city’s police officers and firefighters.

East St. Louis and neighboring Washington Park have 200 or less residential fixed internet connections per 1,000 households, the lowest rate in St. Clair County. Primarily white and more upscale communities such as Belleville and O’Fallon have at least 800 residential internet connections per 1,000 households.
“If we as a city committed to doing this, we could be in a very different place, not overnight but in a couple years,” said Arne Duncan, a former U.S. secretary of education who now runs an anti-violence group. “We gotta commit to doing this.”
