New Illinois law requires cultural hair care plans for DCFS youth in care – WAND (Decatur)
Every youth in care will have a hair care plan that accounts for their racial, cultural, gender, religious or other identities unless the child indicates they don’t need a hair care plan.
The concept appears straightforward: Use government funds to help build stores, shorten the trek for fresh food, and in the process, make people healthier and bolster the local economy. But the way Rise Community Market has struggled in Cairo, IL, illustrates how these programs fall short. Because what happens after a store opens is just as important — and despite the up-front financial investments, that hasn’t been solved at all.
For years the CTU was the proverbial dog chasing the car. It attacked mayors and CPS administrators for not giving in to their demands – it thrived on always having someone else to blame. But when it won the mayoralship with Brandon Johnson last year, the union finally caught the car. Now it has no idea what to do as both the Chicago Public Schools and the City of Chicago flirt with $1 billion budget shortfalls.
Let’s hope this federal court once again ridicules our lawmakers over their hostility to free expression.
