Migrant shot in Chicago as tensions rise between day laborers and law enforcement officers at Home Depot – Chicago Tribune/MSN

Tension between migrants and security in the Home Depot parking lot was palpable Friday morning. Multiple security and CPD officers patrolled the area where migrants gathered on the sidewalk looking for day jobs, calling out “Work! Work!” to passing cars. Some of the migrant men smoked weed. Across the parking lot, a tow truck was called to remove a migrant’s car. But as the driver started towing the car across the lot, dozens of migrants ran after it, yelling expletives. They pulled the car down off the towing block.

Battery recycling bill becomes Illinois law – WGLT (NPR at ISU)

Under the law, battery sellers or distributors will have to develop a recycling stewardship program for small- to medium-sized batteries by 2026. Medium-sized batteries include those made for electric bikes and scooters. The measure is similar to other required recycling programs in Illinois, funded by producers of goods being recycled, such as the one for paint disposal.
