I live close by, statesville is old and run down like you say, to be decommissioned and a new prison built is a feasible move. But we’re in the hell is this state going to get the money. They ( Springfield) cannot afford anything.

Stateville is going to be a complete cluster. It’s an old, dirty prison, with many tightly confined prisoners in that old school panopticon (roundhouse) style layout. It’s a disease factory for a prison with lots of older, sickly inmates serving hard time. I heard once the average sentence of an inmate at Stateville is something like 40 years. More modern prisons are designed differently, so as to keep prisoners isolated more by their grouping and section, so there’s less interaction between the sections of the prison. A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
