‘We’re Not Them … We’re Gonna Be Smart’: Unlike Florida And Georgia, Chicago Will Reopen Based On Science, Lightfoot Says – Block Club Chicago

Iowa, which never implemented a stay at home order, did see more people die because of it, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study compared the state with Illinois, and “researchers concluded that the lockdown may have helped limit infections in Illinois — and that Iowa could have benefited from the same policy.”

Georgia reopened on May 1st and their seven day rolling average of new cases from May 4th to May 18th dropped 18%. Yeah, we don’t want to be Georgia. Not to say one caused the other, but reopening is not a death knell for the people of Georgia. Because the science and data actually supports the opposite of what Gov. Fatslob is doing. Shutdowns cause more coronavirus.

The government has decided that the cost of saving obese indigent democrat voters is your liberty, your home, your business, your savings and your future. The government gives you your ‘privilege’ and they can take your ‘privilege’ away at will. Anyone who actually understands real science understands that it is rarely “settled.” Science is a process, not a result. It is a continuous search for empirical truth in our physical world. And science is about empirical findings, NOT models. What we are doing now is not “science,” but “conjecture.” We won’t know the real science until it is long over, and we are able to study… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
