In most traditions the flag at half-mast is a sign of mourning. Despite all the lingering difficulties, wasn’t the end of slavery something to celebrate? And why not celebrate it on the date of the Emancipation Proclamation? Or maybe the date of ratification of the 13th Amendment? Or maybe the date Illinois became the first state to ratify?
Personally, I don’t have a flag. If I did, I suppose it would be black.

Heard that in 2019 an attempt was made to institute a penalty for selling home in IL and not re-buying in IL. Hope that’s moot, but personally working to beat that possibility as we speak.
