Gov. Pritzker Says Flags Will Be Lowered on Juneteenth in Illinois – NBC5 (Chicago)

"The governor recognizes that, now more than ever, Juneteenth is a day that reminds us that the fight for justice and equity across the nation is not over, and while we will celebrate the end of slavery, we must also ...honor the memory of those who have died simply because of the color of their skin."

I honestly thought ‘Juneteenth’ was a typo – never heard of it.

In most traditions the flag at half-mast is a sign of mourning. Despite all the lingering difficulties, wasn’t the end of slavery something to celebrate? And why not celebrate it on the date of the Emancipation Proclamation? Or maybe the date of ratification of the 13th Amendment? Or maybe the date Illinois became the first state to ratify?

Personally, I don’t have a flag. If I did, I suppose it would be black.

Whatever the anarcho-capitalist flag looks like, count me in.

I’ll take remembrance and pray for all the White, young, the helpless elderly, the veterans maimed and murdered, by systemic black racism.

Heard that in 2019 an attempt was made to institute a penalty for selling home in IL and not re-buying in IL. Hope that’s moot, but personally working to beat that possibility as we speak.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
