The Chicago Alderwoman and Alderman proposing to tear down the Christopher Columbus and Italo Balbo monuments in Chicago are Rossana Rodriguez – Sanchez (33rd Ward) and Carlos Ramirez – Rosa (35th Ward). Both belong to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) political party and ran as Democrats in the 2019 Chicago municipal elections. Other members of the DSA on the 50 member Chicago City Council are: Daniel La Spata (1st Ward) Byron Sigcho – Lopez (25th Ward) Jeanette Taylor (20th Ward) Andrew Vasquez (40th Ward) Thus 12% (6/50) of the Chicago City Council are members of the DSA Party. https://blockclubchicago.org/2019/05/01/chicago-democratic-socialists-celebrate-city-council-wins-plan-for-future-i-never-imagined-we-would-have-6… Read more »

The DSAs are pretty bad. They have radical ideas for change that most people don’t agree with.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
