Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

Dick and Duckworth are both pandering schmucks. Richard “Dick” Durban has been in office for 50 years and has actively participated in the creating the current economic and social issues of today for Illinois and the US. We aren’t supposed to say anything negative about Duckworth, so I appreciate her service, but her point of view doesn’t match mine on any subject.

Both my nephews fought in Iraq, one as a amphibious assault vehicle commander with the 1rst Marine Expeditionary Force going from Kuwait to Baghdad and took out 17 enemy combatants with the tank. They haven’t changed. They were always shallow, empty vessels who would do/say anything to receive adulation. People like that have no core beliefs other than to feed their ego. They care about themselves first. They don’t feel responsibility to others. Even when they claim to care for others it’s only to feed their own sense of self worth.
