Note that improper under-assessment by sociopathic predators such as Pritzker and Ricketts (bipartisan behavior) have a significant deleterious effect on Equalization Factors which affect all property owners. When underassessed properties sell at fair value, the equalization factor formula is designed rise, thus impacting all fairly-valued property assessments upward. Who is overseeing this? Nobody. Underassessment is the most damaging of non-uniform, illegal public assessment practices: it raises rates on all over-assessed or fairly-assessed properties. Can homeowners do anything about it? No. Property tax assessment appeals access is limited: there is no mechanism to appeal unfairly LOW assessments of those predators such… Read more »

The keyword in property tax assessment is “uniformity”. Did tax assessment appellants other than Pritzker receive exemptions from Statutory requirements for required documentation? If so, were all the appellants (in pursuit of “COE” (Certificate of Error), enabling retroactive tax rebates) who received waiver from Statutory requirements treated in a uniform manner, or were those who were represented by certain law firms granted statistically anomalous preferential treatment? Finally, do property taxpayers (homeowners) understand that if this one sociopathic predator is granted preferential treatment then probably there are others, and that for every $1 of property taxes the Pritzker Empire saves there… Read more »

Don’t forget about what Ptell does. With my home in Boone county and my rental in Rockford (Winnebago county) and I think yours in McHenry anyone who gets an abatement or Homeowners/Senior/Disability/etc deduction that savings to the homeowner or business is passed on in the form of a higher tax rate for everyone. Taxing bodies can never get less than what was levied (before deductions) from the previous year plus up to 5% max. Corporations have an army of attorneys to lower tax’s whereas homeowners are on their own with limited resources. The Lowe’s warehouse in Rockford saved over $13M… Read more »

“When I think about the possibility of people committing these kinds of wrongdoings, I think people who are in public service need to live up to the integrity of the job they were asked to do.” Jumbo Belly forgot to add “this does not apply to me.”

I wonder if Pritzker will get an even stiffer sentence than Blagojevich? After all, this is about personal enrichment not just illegal political maneuvering as was the case of Rod…

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
