The left is also outraged about climate change and drought and increasing migration of people from Africa and Central America. “We must do something about it.” I suggest they start by opening up a spare bedroom or two and sponsoring a suffering family. The real issue, of course, isn’t whether Columbus was good or bad. It’s about the process for deciding about statues — deference to mob action and, in Chicago’s case, Lightfoot’s unilateral decision based thereon.
Exactly. I personally think the idea of statues of people is silly — kind of like trophies for adults. I am not offended if they are taken down, they are basically pieces of art. It does not change history. But it has to be done in a civil manner and it should apply to all or none. Government should not be dictating and deciding cultural trends based on current mob trends.

Columbus Day is a paid holiday for State of Illinois, Cook County and Chicago employees.
