The problem is the state’s spending habits. Even if the government were to give the state all the money it needs the state will be under water again a few years later because of failure to reform spending. With all this free money, in the near future the U.S. dollar with be almost worthless. That’s the reason gold is so expensive, because it takes more dollar to buy an ounce. We will no longer be the reserve currency.

This all started to keep the hospitals from being over run with patients. OK that was achieved.
Now he wants to keep Illinois under lock and key because he wants to ruin Illinois and its economy. People will leave but he wants more money from the Federal government because he sees no other way to get money in his pocket.

He wants more free money for the minority patronage workers at the state who haven’t been at work for 6 plus months. He’s doing this because senile joe and blm girl Harris will give him anything he wants. He’s going to be very sad when trump wins.

What the Governor is doing is quite deliberate and with an agenda. He knows and wants to kill the private sector in the state. He wants to punish those who do not see things his “democratic” way. He is also a classic “do as I say, not as I do” politician. But he is a billionaire without a care in the world. My business has been decimated as a result of his measures which we all know are not legal. I have said before and I will say again. NO BAIL out for Illinois in any circumstances. Any funds received… Read more »

If I am not mistaken Madigan and sidekick Cullerton were hinting that we needed a progressive tax before Pritzker came on to the scene making me wonder if this isn’t all Madigan’s doings in a way so that once the stuff hits the fan it will be Pritzker that gets the blame. Madigan is really up there in age category making me wonder if he even grasps the serious problems he is causing to his own State’s citizenry. It has happened before when older political figures seem to make irrational decisions. Look at Germany during the WW2 years where a… Read more »

I share your concerns on those who will vote for him. I agree with you. Too many folks have vested interests in maintaining the status quo. However at some point it will all come crashing down. Maybe not in my lifetime but a wise man once told me good will always trump evil. And it is evil and unlawful what the Governor is doing to the private sector workers in Illinois, ably abetted by his special interests and unions. The fat lady is not taking the stage quite yet, but she is clearing her throat. What is happening is not… Read more »

pritzker is not smart enough to run the state. Although he makes little, sqeeks about Madigan…Madigan has his entire arm up pritzkers arse and is still the puppet master. Just look at pritzker. This guy would be cleaning CTA buses if it wasnt for his family money.

I’m not sure how we’re “locked down” in Illinois. I can go to any store I want, get food from restaurants, my child is going to school, to go the gym, go to church or watch it online, go to the dentist or doctor, and drive wherever I want, including other states. I do have to take precautions, but that’s what is keeping the virus from spreading.

Yeah, it’s no big deal. What lockdown? You’d never know. Apart from the loss of 430,000 jobs and 180% spike in unemployment vs a year ago, all for the sake of “keeping the virus from spreading” which is something that will never happen. By the way, do you ask yourself why we went from “bend the curve” to “slow the spread” to “stop the spread” or are you not that curious? Good to hear your kid is going to school. Must be a private school (with your white privilege) otherwise you must classify half day in school instruction or 100%… Read more »

Amen! A large part of our problem is the people who look at only their little world and refuse to see the bigger picture, those whose lives and businesses have been ruined.

I no longer live in Illinois, but I know absolutely NOBODY who got infected by COVID-19.

I know at least five people, including my wife, who got laid off directly due to the mass hysteria around shutting down the economy because of this flu bug.

So when would you have decided to shut things dow? What’s your level of tolerance for such deaths? Do you think the public at large in your area would agree with your threshold for making that decision? You feel free to give criticism of others who have to decide such issues so man-up and declare your version of how it should have been decided.

Let’s flip this. What’s your tolerance for economic and household devastation? Said differently, what’s the right balance between deaths and economic ruin? How many’s peoples lives and livelihoods are worth upending to prevent an event, the death of single person, you cannot possibly control?

Some countries and states never shut down and appear to be doing alright.

And do us all a favor, really make your virtuosity shine in your response! Let us know how good a person you are!

That fat pig is killing people with his cruel, unscientific lockdown! How many more children are you willing to put in their graves because of alcohol abuse, drug overdose, isolation, abuse and resultant suicide just so he can feel like a bigshot?

The title might be a little hyperbolic but the point is they will try to take advantage of the pandemic to help kick the can on pensions. Senator Don Harmon already asked for $40 billion from the feds earlier in the year, of which AT LEAST $10 billion would have been explicitly earmarked for pensions.

Living close to the Missouri border allows my grandchildren to play grade school aged soccer, little league ball and a host of other activities that are outlawed by the Governor. Incidentally in Michigan Whitmer is having her broad interpretation of state executive authority checked by the Michigan Supreme Court, which found that she violated the Constitution with her extension of the state of emergency. Of course that’s Michigan where Judges do not get 7 figure contributions for their retention campaigns.

It has never been about health with him. If it were then he would not have his family roaming the country to all their HOMES!!!.
He and the others who are in Illinois government are all about hands out for what they can get for thee but not for others.!!!!!

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
