Column: Democrats start finger-pointing, mostly at Madigan – Herald and Review (Decatur)

Rich Miller: "A narrow loss would’ve been one thing. But after voters overwhelmingly rejected taxing a relatively few upper-income people, it’s going to be hugely difficult to convince Democratic state legislators to make up for those billions in lost revenues by increasing the state’s flat tax on everyone."

Miller and his minions were like kids in a candy store when JB came up with the fair tax. And their confidence was sky high when JB plunked down $56MM to make sure it passed. Oswego Silly waxed eloquently against anyone who suggested the fair tax wouldn’t pass. He didn’t see Ken Griffin standing there grinning with his gigantic wallet. A wallet so big that it dwarfs Pritzker, which is no small task. The Capfax crew started getting nervous the last few weeks before the election, and now they bleat about punishing the southern half of the state for daring… Read more »

Miller keeps up the “Progressive Income Tax” lie like an obedient propaganda shill. The actual Amendment language – which was illegally not even on the ballot – simply removed the words “flat tax” as the only means of taxing income in Illinois. The Amendment wasn’t a swap of flat tax for progressive tax. It simply eliminated flat tax as the only means of taxing income, thereby opening the floodgates to countless forms of income tax. All of the media perpetuate this lie. it is disgusting.

Rich, of course, glosses over the fact that something like a half-million voters who cast ballots in favor of Sleepy Joe also voted AGAINST the “Fair” Tax amendment. Wasn’t even close, even among Democrats (outside of Cook county, that is). And the whole “Voting against Madigan” meme. That’s nonsense. People voted against what Madigan and Democrats have made of governance and public finances in Illinois. And that’s what’s giving Governor Tax Cheat and the “free-stuff-for-votes” cabal in Springfield the vaporous willies. They can try to blame it on Madigan, however everyone knows we wouldn’t be in the (sinking) boat we’re… Read more »

The proponents’ much less focused message simply had no chance.”

Are you kidding me?! They bragged incessantly that “97% won’t pay more in taxes”. If it had no chance, why did they lean so heavily into it for the past year? Why did no one tell them it was hopeless?

I’m also calling shenanigans on Miller here. Did he ever once question this strategy?

No, Miller nor anyone questioned the Dictator’s strategy. It never occurred to them that anyone would ever think differently from them or buy the crap they were selling

They will extent the voter fraud to the fair tax next election. After all it will be so painful to turn it down that people accept that a majority actually voted for being taxed to death.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
