Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I feel terrible for all the folks in this industry– owners, workers, suppliers–everyone in the chain. Lots of little people really getting hurt. But–HEY– check out who you endorsed and voted for. Food and Commercial Workers, AFL-CIO and most folks in the industry supported Pritzker, Lori, Biden etc. Guess you get what you voted for. Maybe you will think a little harder next time your union bosses and BA’s want to give your union dues to politicians who screw you..
