Isn’t the existence of District of Columbia as specifically not a state in the Constitution? Wouldn’t DC Statehood require an amendment to the Constitution? Wasn’t this special non-state federal district created to prevent the government from having congressional representation that would naturally support all things governmental and federal? Besides that, DC has a population 49th out of 50 states plus DC. That seems to be a grossly out size bleeding heart liberal representation for such a newly created state……perhaps exactly what the founding fathers had in mind. Of course, buffoons like Duckworth and Durbin have never read the Constitution so… Read more »

DC Statehood would equal two new Senator slots for the Democrats. It is pretty easy to understand.

I believe there was a movement to split California into two states a while back.

Meh, I don’t know all the fuss is about; Texas can split into 10 states giving Republicans 20 new Senators.

Ok if DC becomes a state, require all federal departments to begin moving out into the other 50 states. Move agriculture to Nebraska, move the FBI headquarters to Iowa, move the treasury to Texas, move the Supreme court to Alaska, rebuild a new pentagon in Ohio, etc… Why the hell should all this federal money be allowed to flow to only one state?

I guess they didn’t study the Federalist Papers very well when Alexander Hamilton ticked off the points of why DC isn’t a state, and why it should never be a state.

The Leftists have never read the Constitution. Why would they read the Federalist Papers?

Never fear, Durbin and Duckworth gleefully support something that is unconstitutional – you can’t turn a federal district into a state. In Duckworth’s case, that is no surprise but Durbin should know better.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
