Watchdog report details large-scale mismanagement of COVID-19 outbreak at LaSalle VA home where 36 veterans died – Chicago Tribune*

The 50-page report twice praises the LaSalle home’s staff for their “dedication and care for veterans amid the pandemic’s demanding conditions,” but it faults “inadequate leadership and structure” within the home and the Veterans Affairs agency. Then-VA Director Linda Chapa LaVia “abdicated” her responsibilities, leaving things to a nonmedical chief of staff who issued rules contradictory to health guidelines and failed to seek outside help as the outbreak grew.

The question was asked several times yesterday on Cap Fax, who was the deputy governor overseeing the V.A.? How involved have they been?

For example, Deputy Governor CM likes to send tweets about MMA, Marvel comics, etc., I would assume on paid-time :

Remember when Jabba criticized Rauner severely for the Quincy Veterans Home deaths due to Legionnaires? How is this any different? Well, more people died in this tragedy. But we don’t hear word one for the arrogant Jabba about how he failed these veterans. Despicable.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
