While this new advisory referendum could be nothing more than a political distraction, it could also be that lawmakers are gauging Illinoisans’ appetite for another bite at a progressive income tax hike – this time with lower property taxes as a sweetener.
At $1.5 million per job, the new incentive package from the state is at least 15 times the norm. For this much money, the state could have just handed out a million bucks to 827 people, instead of creating 550 jobs.

Nearly one year ago, Chicagoans cheered Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s removal from office. In her place was Brandon Johnson, who promised a more inclusive approach to building a “better, stronger, safer Chicago.” It hasn’t turned out that way. Today, there’s little disagreement that Mayor Johnson has disappointed on most key issues. On crime. On policing. On migrants. On education. On governance. Even on foreign affairs.
The weakness in their logic is XXXX, Illinois…. Unless you change the piece after the comma, you are subject to the same stupidity and ignorance.
CPS has been declining since the 1950s, including some White schools then.

You come and bring too many cars per home, too many people per single family home, loud noise (they call it music) inappropriate for back yards, poorly educated kids who have no respect for property or people. Overflow garbage containers constantly, most poorly contained leading to rats. Disregard traffic laws, parking restrictions, stop signs, speed limits, what yellow curbs mean. Time to stop therapeutic purging of outrage, time to seek practical solutions. People who believe they have been victims of injustice have every right to seek islands of safety and equity. Chicago suburbs are not such islands. The property tax rate in suburbs is at minimum 150% that of Chicago.
