So why doe’s University of Illinois have 6000 China nationals taking up seats meant for Illinois citizens ?

Ron – $$$ – International students pay full freight. Someone has to pay for all of the overhead. University of Illinois even took out an insurance policy against events which could cause a downturn in Chinese enrollment. Really looking out for Illinois residents, huh? (See, for example, UNC Chapel Hill where 85% of the students must be from in-state, and with the remaining 15% filled with athletes, well, there is only a bit of international enrollment). Ironically, and I know this from my own NCAA experience, the athletic department doesn’t like it because foreign scholarships cost more than domestic ones.… Read more »

so lets see – if your kid is average you still want a place for him at a top school? As a parent of a son who got into the U of I, Id prefer your dumb kid goes somewhere else. People want competition until they are sorted out.
