"City Council members and Mayor Daniel Biss are discussing reallocating public safety dollars to, among other things, have social workers rather than police handle mental health calls. And the Evanston police force has been downsized in a pandemic-induced retrenchment with 14 vacant positions either eliminated or left unfilled. Add those local issues to the national picture and you see the environment Evanston’s approximately 150 police officers are facing."

Why Social Work? Our society faces serious, interrelated, and large-scale challenges—violence, substance abuse, environmental degradation, injustice, isolation, and inequality. We need social workers’ unique blend of scientific knowledge and caring practice more than ever.
The world needs more social workers. The world needs you.
I’m in the “helping profession” (employment case manager) and I’ve met hundreds of social workers over the years – and not ONE has a lick of common sense, let alone “street smarts” One dean of a prominent local school of social work told me, “An MSW degree is the very easiest degree to get – all you need is a room – temp IQ and the money to pay for it…”
It only costs a lot more to go third class. Next thing you know the state will license grocery cart retrievers and institute a two-year college degree program.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
