Mayor Lightfoot’s Resolution Calling For Critical Race Theory In Schools Is As Shameless As It Is Shameful – Wirepoints

By: Mark Glennon*

She didn’t just vote for it, she sponsored it: a resolution expressly calling for K-12 schools to teach Critical Race Theory, which the public overwhelmingly despises and which has sparked heated protests at school boards across the nation. Unlike other attempts to hide what CRT is about, Lightfoot’s resolution is shameless.

The resolution was adopted at the recent annual meeting of the U.S. Council of Mayors and is labeled, “In Support of Critical Race Theory in Public K-12 Education.” As initially published, the resolution listed four mayors as sponsors at the bottom, which included Lightfoot. It calls for this:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the nation’s mayors support the implementation of CRT in the public education curriculum to help engage our youth in programming that reflects an accurate, complete account of BIPOC history….

If you’ve been following the CRT controversy you know that many of its defenders routinely try to weasel out of what it’s about by claiming they only want teachers to cover the history of slavery and the problem of racism. Or they lie by claiming CRT is some abstract theory only discussed in higher education.

Not this time. The resolution actually defines CRT and praises exactly the features that make it so divisive and contemptible.

It says, for example,

that “the imposition of second-class citizenship on people of color continue to permeate the social fabric of this nation;”

that “racist incidents are not aberrations but instead manifestations of structural and systemic racism”;

“race is not biologically real, but it is socially constructed and socially significant as a product of social thought not connected to biological reality” (whatever that means);

and that “historical racism and racist systems have caused de jure and de facto discrimination against people of color and have created racial inequities in all facets of life in the United States, and these racial inequities continue to the present day.” [Emphasis added.]

Most importantly, the resolution attacks the fundamental virtues of meritocracy and colorblindness, which are probably the most controversial aspects of CRT.  Specifically, it rejects “popular understandings about racism, including claims of meritocracy, colorblindness, and arguments that confine racism to a few bad apples, in recognition that the systemic nature of racism.” It also claims school discipline impacts students of color more than others.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot

As you’d expect, MSM and Illinois media have ignored the story entirely, although the resolution did get attention from a number of national conservative outlets. Fox News described how the sponsors’ names were mysteriously deleted. Fox says it has reached out to Lightfoot for comment but have gotten no response.

Polls show that Americans overwhelmingly oppose CRT in K-12 schools. Same for Illinoisans. That’s for good reason. We said this before and we say it again: Critical Race Theory is perhaps the most pernicious and destructive movements our age. It is a doctrine of hatred and division designed purposefully to stoke racial animus, just as countless autocratic movements throughout history have inflamed racial division to divide and conquer.

It expressly rejects the goals of color blindness and the melting pot, which have been among the most noble aspirations of America and almost all of the Western Hemisphere. By asserting that race, not character, fundamentally defines all humans, it rejects, at its core, the most basic premise of our society – that all men are created equal.

1/2 + 2/3 = 3/5. This in a nutshell is what passed for advanced math in CPS back in 1985. At the time, I felt 30% of the faculty would fail a simple high school entrance exam, so I left. I can’t believe it has gotten any better.

Parents should demand CPS produce/share lesson plans for his very important subject. That’ll kill it dead! Lesson Plans? WTF is that? CTU will respond NFW!

If you have school age children leave Chicago now!

Sadly, few CPS graduates will have any marketable job skills or cognitive ability.

They will be funneled into either the City Colleges or Chicago State to widdle away time that could have been spent learning a marketable skill.

That’s the objective! Chicago has a shortage of general purpose imbeciles, they’re all in the City Council and the city needs people on shovels for the next fifty years; replacing lead lines.

The good news is that they won’t be any better at teaching this stuff than they are at teaching Mathematics and Reading and Writing. And even if they were the best students have left the city so what is left behind won’t be able to process this stuff.

Socialism is being infused into public and private university and preschool – 12th grade instruction in all sorts of ways in school districts throughout the country.

What is being reported is the tip of the iceberg.

Pretty much a socialism education revolution.

If your stated goal was to drive every normal, conscientious taxpayer out of the city and state, I am not sure what you would have done differently than the actions of Lightfoot and Pritzker.

did anyone really ever think we would see the day Chicago would elect an openly RACIST mayor

If CRT were even just a little bit critical about the state of black families, neighborhoods, abortion rates, unremoreseful-killing, etc. As it is critical of everyone but blacks, then I might give it some thought. But the utter lack of self-examination and self-criticism replaced by utter blame leaves me thinking CRT isn’t much of an intellectual philosophy that can withstand analysis. So you teach a generation to do nothing but blame someone else… in the end you’re still left with fatherless boys, aborting your demographic, and all the other things swept under the rug by a philosophy that cant be… Read more »

this is about as stupid as Biden saying that white supremacists are the main threat to the country, every single night i watch the news its primarily blacks doing all of the shootings, robberies, car jackings ,looting etc etc.But everything is ole whiteys fault?!-laughable,i havent seen to many crimes commited by white supremacists lately.Until the blacks take some accountability and responsibilty for the chaos they cause,NOTHING is going to change

Hey Lori, how about some mitigation. Maybe a touch of in-depth introspection, a little self criticism and scabodalitz, we’re all covered!

Scabodalitz is doing something, anything in a frantic method to project an image of diligence. It’s synonymous with desperation. Lori frequently has the look when she climbs out of her nest.

Mark–I think you are wrong. Unfortunately, Chicagoan’s of means are for the most part all on board with CRT, BLM, the virtue signaling opportunities, etc. Oddly in my NW side bungalow-belt neighborhood, the most white, most upscale blocks have the most blm signs out front. I often think CRT / BLM is all about pols shamelessly virtue signalling to upper income libs–PLEASE COME TO CHICAGO AND TURN ENGLEWOOD INTO THE NEXT WICKER PACK (income important/ race not important). It’s all about the San Francisco-izing of Chicago….poor folks are just along as stage-props. That’s what’s for sale

Yes, but signs can be deceiving. There is still strong GOP support on the NW side. The signs are there to virtue signal the infidels out of the neighborhood. But it’s not working.

Having a BLM sign is no different than a black owned sign; voodoo amulets! Don’t burn me!

To whom is CRT preaching in CPS? Only 11% of the student body is White. It’s a majority Hispanic school district now. Their target market for indoctrination simply isn’t there.

The Boise mayor came out pretty quick to disassociate herself from the letter, so only three sponsors, one of which was the Autonomous Zone formerly known as Portland. Nice company.

Things are getting very ugly. The city of Chicago is lost. It isn’t like this everywhere, but choose your next move carefully. You don’t want to do it more than once. Choose a deep red state and don’t look back.

I agree, but the only problem is that these goofy liberals and leftists move to the red states with conservatives (like myself) and vote and act like they have in the God-forbidden blue states. I have a flaming liberal relative who is a CPS teacher who can’t wait to move to Indiana because “it’s safer and the taxes are lower”, yet I’m sure she will vote and act just like she does now. She epitomizes the definition of idiocy – keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result! I agree with – “move and don’t… Read more »

There is no evidence for any of the accusations given in the resolution. They simply claim they are all true, and anybody who objects is a bigoted racist.

Our cities reflect the despicable, dangerous people who have been in charge of them.

The City felt so different 10 years ago. There was positive momentum and a sense of eternal vibrancy. Lori seems to have destroyed that. This article continues to build my view that the racist element in her core beliefs has been a major driver of this. It’s tentacles touch her tolerance of crime, diminution of the CPD, acceptance of the socialism (ctu and Columbus statue), het choices to grandstand on at the national level, her brutish style, etc. The City would have been much better off if she had never surfaced here.

Truth!
Grew up in the city in the early 70s through 80s, Gage Park, Brighton Park, Archer Heights and Marquette Park.
It was truly amazing then.
Now, a cesspool filled with morally indignant trash telling us all what our reality should be, without building anything themselves.

Funniest thing, all the old timers then (70s and 80s) said this would happen, and it did.
That generation had common sense and could pick the wheat from the chafe.

I grew up in Richton Park. Rich South High School received a Presidential Excellence Award from President Reagan.

Now, they have closed Rich East and combined all three schools and I’m treated to an article on Fox 32 about the fights at the school becoming too overwhelming.

And this is somehow the white man’s fault.

Tom Brokaw should do a follow up on his white flight special from 20 years ago apologizing and telling us we were right to leave.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
