Most city employees can appeal if they are terminated, either to the city’s Human Resources Board or an arbitrator. Chicago Police officers can only be terminated on the recommendation of Chicago Police Supt. David Brown and a vote of the Chicago Police Board.

They can’t find replacements for the hundreds of officers leaving of their own accord, and she’s going to put them on unpaid status? Don’t be surprised if you see Paul Blart, Mall Cop as a CPD Police Captain in the near future

Don’t forget-Chief Wiggum-Inspector Gadget-Quick Draw McGraw=Deputy Dawg and Ricochet Rabbit all who could do a decent job of Captain. Maybe also Yosemite Sam.

This looks like a standoff that the workers can win. This is because police persons are essential and have numerous and more fulfilling options. Lightfoot should change her focus and stand up to the CTU — I think the teachers have many fewer options. We need police. We only pretend to need teachers. Fewer pretend to need administrators. Closing schools and expelling indifferent or disruptive students could lead (perhaps) to cutting the teacher/admin population by 50%, while reducing the salary budget by at least that amount.
