National media have covered it and it sparked a firestorm on social media, but you wouldn’t know a word about it if your are relying on Illinois media and politicians. And you certainly wouldn’t have heard any criticism.
It’s the Department of Homeland Security’s new “Disinformation Governance Board.” That sounds sounds sinister enough, but it was quickly dubbed the Ministry of Truth, alluding appropriately to George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Announcement of the board truly seemed like satire designed to insult one’s intelligence and disgrace the nation. News of the disinformation board first came from they guy who, only the day before, said the Mexican border is “effectively managed.” (A record two million illegal crossings are expected this year.) That’s DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Mayorkas has also refused to apologize for, or even acknowledge, that the border agents on horseback were falsely accused of whipping border crossers — a whopping lie propagated by Biden himself.
Topping off that insult is Nina Jankowicz, who will head the board. She’s a “disinformation expert,” according to the Biden Administration. That she is, but not in the way the administration meant. She has repeatedly dismissed the authenticity of the Hunter Biden laptop, alternately claiming it was a “Trump campaign product” and a Russian hoax. She criticized the Wuhan lab leak theory, earning her praise from the Chinese Communist Party. She spread the disproven claim that Russians had paid bounties on US soldiers. She praised the infamous Christopher Steele dossier, which was in fact fabricated by Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
And then there’s the cringe. If you haven’t seen her performance, self-described as the “Mary Poppins of Disinformation, watch it, linked here.
The new board should have been ridiculed immediately by officeholders of every party and editorialists everywhere, along with demands to strip any funding for it from the federal budget. Many outside of Illinois have done so.
But it’s dead silence in Illinois. I haven’t see a shred of criticism and no news stories about the board in any Illinois media, other than one at Center Square and one at WGN. Same for Illinois politicians, Democrat and Republican alike.
That’s perhaps just as frightening as the creation of the board.
Upon his 2020 election win, Joe Biden said, “America is a beacon for the globe. We will lead not only by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.” That indeed should be our aspiration, but this, this is the example America puts forth?

Today, Russia has two English government-sponsored sites, Sputnicknews.com and RT.com. Both are worth looking at occasionally to see what they are claiming, which is not always untruthful. I would sincerely trust what comes out of the new US Disinformation Panel no more than I trust those Russian sites.
I think in this day and age what is “the truth” is a slippery substance that can always be manipulated and is relative and doesn’t really matter for those in power or those vying for power. What matters is who has the POWER to controll internet data and I’m sure this is the true aim of new Disinformation Governance Board. Rob, we don’t know yet, but with its leadership being in Mayorkas and Jankowicz, its general direction should be clear. In any event, this is not a role government should be undertaking, no matter who is in charge.
I think the name they chose, Disinformation GOVERNANCE Board, shows that the intention is to govern and control. They didn’t call it the Anti Disinformation Task Force, like anti-terrorism. Pretty sure the intention is not just to put out statements.

This lady is another great example of an unqualified loser brought aboard the sinking ship that is the Biden administration. He will go down as the worst president in modern times. It’s as if every decision and action he takes is intentionally awful. As for local media, I can no longer watch any local news. It is a swamp of wokeness virtually every single second of the broadcast. NBC and ABC were always bad in terms of liberal bias, but WGN has joined them.
