‘America’s most immigrant-friendly city’ or Martha’s Vineyard? Chicago looks to send migrants to Central Illinois. – Wirepoints Quickpoint

By: Mark Glennon*

Chicago seems intent on replacing Martha’s Vineyard in national headlines about hypocrisy over treatment of border crossers. Bougie, liberal Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts is being widely ridiculed for promptly shipping out some 50 Venezuelan immigrants flown in from Florida. But that’s nothing compared to Chicago, which has boasted of being America’s “most immigrant-friendly city.”

Chicago, according to a local NPR station, is now looking to Central Illinois help to deal with its “overflow of bused immigrants.” Chicago “is reaching out to other cities across Illinois for help as it deals with an influx of migrants bused in by red state governors,” the NPR report says.

“Overflow of bused immigrants”? Really? Estimates for how many immigrants have been bused to Chicago range from just 300 to 1,000. That’s nothing compared to what Chicago should reasonably have expected to receive based on its population when it rolled out its welcome mat and declared itself a sanctuary city.

Of the annual two million migrants arriving annually in America who are seeking asylum, Chicago’s share alone would be 17,000 per year, and that doesn’t count the “gotaways” — illegal border crossers who did not contact authorities to request asylum. Hundreds of thousand of them are likely in the country.

That’s quite a switch for a city so proud when it was named the nation’s most immigrant-friendly city in 2019.

“We are tremendously proud Chicago has been named the most welcoming city in America for immigrants and refugees,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a statement at the time. “This ranking reflects the passionate and dedicated work of countless public officials and community members across our city who have come together to stand up and fight for the rights of our immigrant and refugee communities, no matter the cost.”

Not to worry, though. Gov. JB Pritzker has called up the Illinois National Guard to help Chicago deal with its trauma.

Just use the Martha’s Vineyard Method. Call the National Guard and have them removed, in less than 48 hours‼️

We have an election coming up in November. We have the opportunity to vote these bums out of office. Pritzker is up for election and we have an opportunity to get rid of him. On January 1st of 2023 the no bail policy goes into effect in Illinois where violent criminals can just walk without being held on bail. Criminal with an ankle monitor cannot be pursued until 48 hrs pass. Trespassers cannot be removed from your property. How bad does it have to get in this state before you kick Pritzker and the Dems out.

The dems will win in their usual landslide, as always – the voters of Illinois are too stupid to do otherwise…

Illinois residents vote Democratic because they get all kinds of free stuff when a Dem is elected. Illinois has created a state of people heavily reliant on free stuff, lazy, uneducated, and unable to take care of their families and themselves. Democrat voters never intend to be productive members of society. They will only vote for politicians who will take care of them with other people’s money.

I never agreed to make Illinois a sanctuary state. Sanctuary’s status was dictated by Pritzker. He has enough money to take care of all illegal immigrants he welcomed to Illinois. Pritzker is being heartless and cruel to send them to me because I can’t afford to care for them like he could. But yet, he expects me to support them. If I help out where am I going to get the money I need to pay my Illinois taxes and real estate taxes? I don’t have extra money laying around like Pritzker and the State of Illinois do. This was… Read more »

Why don’t I get free healthcare, free food and free housing?. I am a taxpaying citizen – obviously the priority is for illegals and forget about legal citizens. Sanctuary cities violate federal law. Our taxes are one of the highest in the nation because the Democratic administration thinks it is OK to do whatever they want with our money. Why don’t they send these illegals to his empty mansion?

a democrap’s world revolves around money, lies and predatory behavior. An American’s world revolves around family and individual liberty as defined by the constitution and bill of rights. Move to a state that respects your individual Liberty Carol.

I would bet JBs trust fun is benefiting from the immigrant needs, like the Covid emergencies.

The most important is how many more workers Illinois needs. How many of these shipped migrants would come legally if we did not have the ridiculous immigration policy?

All of them. The entire point of this treasonous endeavor is to scatter the illegals into the wind, give them amnesty in 5-10 years, and create an undefeatable Democrat popular majority. They don’t like the natives voting Republican so they are importing new future voters.

You and six others who support your comment represent the voice of the majority. Sadly, as it was with the case of prohibition, the majority is deeply misinformed. I wrote an explanation: https://virtualagora.us/how-did-americans-screw-up-immigration-62aca6c891b1?sk=e70b3419fd199ddc013ffd25b829614a. Please point errors in my reasoning, if you can.

I read your article, which reflects sound research and reasoning. I have this to add — somewhat simplistic and only partly tongue-in-cheek. We should place kiosks on the main routes traveled by gottaways and those admitted with a postponed hearing date. Those individuals would be required to check-in with names and fingerprints. The U.S. would have X months to find them. Those who failed to show for their hearing would be jailed or deported immediately. Those who never registered (gottaways?) would have a right to legal status if they were not apprehended within X+N months — a sort of statute… Read more »

I feel uncomfortable that you treat migrants not as as people but as subjects we can push around.

Individual attention is not possible when dealing with large numbers of people. Consider how the IRS treats taxpayers; consider how COVID relief was showered down from Washington and Springfield with no oversight; consider how masking requirements were applied by government on an arbitrary basis to all public employees or by airlines on all passengers. Your discomfort may express your wish for a trigger warning to all who try to start a dialog with you on this site, but there is no feasible way to treat two million migrants based on their individual circumstances any more than trying to give every… Read more »

Landlords I don’t think have the right to ask status. A photo ID driver’s license used to indicate US citizenship; not anymore. Truckloads of counterfeit id’s found in Kentucky made by illegal immigrants. Still cannot get a straight answer on how many illegals have voted in past elections…

Even if Congressional gridlock could be overcome, Biden or Harris would veto any forthcoming legislation. Governors could mobilize their National Guards and then Biden could send the army to re-open the borders. A “different” kind of national emergency. Analogies to Putin come to mind.

What’s stopping JB from sending a bus down to the border and working with Abbott to fill the bus? If he’s concerned about how these migrants are getting here, then he should arrange the transportation himself.

Thomas Lauterback

Trauma? Welcoming and caring for those diversity-providing, freedom from oppression-seeking illegal aliens who are allowing the rad-lib to manifest their commitment to inclusion? They should be a blessing for any sanctuary city. And Chicago is the ultimate sanctuary city.

That’s actually an excellent strategy. If you start doing that you can expect the border to get locked down real fast.

Is LOL governor JB’s snow platoons transporting the migrants down state in tactical vehicles or using trashy CTA buses. The migrants had a difficult journey thru south of the border countries, then had an arduous 24 hr journey from Texas, says JB. Of course, on a cushy Coach. Then the moron transports them to the suburbs on CTA buses. What is the traumatic part in all of this?
Maybe they are just there to help CPS keep downtown safe and secure. That would look bad for LOL Lori, so they use the migrant story.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
