Editorial: What should Chicago be doing about Fridays when hardly anyone comes to the office? – Chicago Tribune*

"Mayor Lori Lightfoot seems to have an aversion to promoting downtown. She’s clearly aware of the criticism leveled at former Mayor Rahm Emanuel for supposedly ignoring the neighborhoods and concentrating on the city core where the big money resides. The problem with her approach is that downtown remains the economic engine of the city. Between the coasts, there is no more valuable piece of real estate, and it’s suffering."

This whole thing is absolutely incomprehensible!

Why, in the devils own holy name, would anyone stay out of downtown chicago on Friday or any other day of the week!?

Lori should implement an incentive for people to come downtown on Fridays. Free weed and booze, expensive bourbon for adults and cheap beer for children.

Legalize prostitution and make Rush St. a red light district. Illegal immigrants get jobs, degenerates get what they want too. It’s a win-win

Shortly after the pandemic hit I said office buildings will become obsolete, the trajectory towards that end continues, it won’t turn back. If your job is performed using a computer, there is no need to be present anywhere except online, living wherever you wish.

Lori should meet with the top business leaders. Demand employees work in the office on Fridays. Go ahead Lori show some balls for once.

Until the area is made safe there will be no improvement. The simple and only solution is to arrest the bad guys, prosecute and convict the bad guys, and incarcerate the bad guys. Four or five years of this simple program might make the area usable again. Otherwise, it will continue the decline to an empty criminal controlled wasteland.

Luxury condos that are free for teachers! It can be their reward for not working during COVID and setting our children back years

In my few ventures downtown recently, Chicago looks like a stage set for some post – apocalyptic disaster flick, like the old 1959 NYC – set “The World, The Flesh, And The Devil”, the more recent “I Am Legend”, or the TV documentary series “Life After People”… e.g. “WHERE IS EVERYBODY!?”.

If you visit the Loop on a weekday these days, you would swear you were in Englewood –nobody you see looks like they are there for a job or for any good purpose at all

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
