Voters can change the Illinois Constitution in one of two ways: 60% of votes on the change, or a majority of total election votes. The Amendment 1 vote is so close and so many ballots remain uncounted, that calculating those two numbers remains elusive.
They use exit polling not actually counting ballots when calling it for Pritzker at 7:02 PM. Fox News called it for Newsom right at poll closing time without one ballot counted. This has been done for years. Also, for Amendment 1 to officially pass it will need more than 50% yes votes compared to total ballots. We don’t know this total ballot number until 2 weeks post election because mail ballots are accepted up to 2 weeks after polls close if postmarked before deadline. If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
