More PPP loan fraud by Cook County employees uncovered, some fired, watchdog reports – Chicago Tribune/MSN

In the office’s latest report, the IG recommended termination for four more employees in the county’s Bureau of Technology, assessor’s office, Board of Review and in the secretary of the Board’s office; Three others have already been fired. Previous investigations into PPP loan fraud have targeted the Chicago Housing Authority, the office of Chief Judge Timothy Evans, and more than a dozen people in the custody of Sheriff Tom Dart.

I have no problems with legitimate businesses, even ones with healthy balance sheets, taking PPP loans during corona, because no one at the time really knew how long this was going to last, or what ‘mitigation’ strategies the state could take on a moment’s notice. Those loans could be paid back, or if business suffered in the future, they could be forgiven. I do have problems with individuals creating fake businesses, and submitting fake paperwork, to obtain PPP loans for the maximum amount. That’s where the real PPP scam was. Illinois guvmn’t employees whose experiences in performing their day jobs persuaded them that they would get away with stealing money from taxpayers.

Small wonder that the Illinois guvmn’t agencies responsible for preventing and punishing fraud, waste and abuse, and the employee’s supervisors, are all fine with not releasing names.

Don’t want to make it easy to look into all the “day to day” shenanigans that these folks engaged in prior to their deciding to rob taxpayers with criminal PPP loan applications.

Fired? I thought they give promotions to people who screw over the honest poor working taxpayer and their families. A government workers first job is to lie and cheat the taxpayer.
When that is over, they enjoy a huge pension in Punta Gorda paid for by the taxpayer.
