When colleges take political positions, they show who isn’t wanted – George Will

In 1967, when many campuses were inflamed and the University of Chicago was under internal pressure to announce opposition to the Vietnam War, the university produced the Kalven Report, which said campus free speech and the academic mission depend on a “heavy presumption” in favor of institutional neutrality regarding political matters:

the University of Chicago talks a big game, but the evidence shows they are becoming an organ of the left. Look at the Institute that David Axelrod runs as one example. It won’t be long before ESG is taught actively in the business school as legitimate.

The Pritzker name is engraved into Northwestern Law School, which is quickly turning into a social justice attorney mill with little grasp of the letter of the law.

Colleges today are turning out unemployable retards that see the world on in terms of who’s the most “victimized” and “oppressed.”

Today’s thoroughly saturated academia is a reminder: The defining characteristic of totalitarian societies is not that the individual cannot participate in politics, but that the individual cannot not participate.

Excellent article – neutrality should be embraced by all public-supported institutions, corporations, professional athletic teams, and social media platforms.

It’s the movement away from neutrality that has led to the mess we have today.

Requiring signed adherence from teachers to a particular ideology is antithetical to freedom, free speech and open discussion.

Politics and ideologies have no place in education – except for those courses directly addressing those topics.

The Kalven Report should be dusted off and distributed anew.

I’m afraid we’re too far down the road on this. With the agenda writers of the media also bloviating their opinions and the limited intelligence of the American voter (as evidenced by the past mid terms) I have real concern for this country’s future. Pat S, say it please!

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
