Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Wasn’t the financial plan Johnson proposed-then-quickly-walked-back straight out of Karen Lewis’ playbook? Or one of those neighborhood groups that CTU funds? It’s not like he wrote that himself. So he’s obvs gonna be a puppet for someone’s tax-happy financial plan.
The teachers deserve a huge raise in pay and benefits, after all they are doing such a good job.
Golly. Imagine how much the CTU vermin they would deserve to be paid if they could double their student achievement to 2 of 6 functioning at grade level instead of their current stellar 1 in 6 ?!?
Here’s how it plays out. Johnson wins – teachers get everything they want, the union gets more power and the indoctrination gets worse. Vallas wins – teachers go on strike to make him look bad and prove he’s a bad mayor. Wash, rinse, repeat until they get the socialist mayor that gives them more power.
Having read several news stories describing the debate between Johnson and Vallas I’d say it’s pretty clear that Johnson and the teacher’s unions accomplished what they intended, and that Vallas failed in getting any traction with his “I’m above it all, trust me” strategy. Truthfully, I’m fine with either winning, given they’re both Dem’s who can’t or won’t articulate a plan that saves Chicago from turning into a Detroit dumpster-fire. CME announcing a move the day after Johnson winning would be such a baller move.
It is a great investment for them. They get paid back 10 times (or more) that amount from the taxpayers if he wins. This is what has destroyed Illinois, public unions support the politician, and they pay them back big time with taxpayers’ money.

Of course he will push CTU’s agenda. Unions have always gotten what they want by buying politicians. They just aren’t trying to hide it any more. Or maybe Johnson’s campaign slogan will be “It’s for the children”.
