If you’re the traditional media, the fact that only 12% of black students statewide can read at grade level is less newsworthy than the fact that Wirepoints is providing the public with that info – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about how neither mayoral candidate has a vision to turn around Chicago, the importance of spreading real crime and education data instead of rhetoric, how lawmakers in Springfield have embraced the soft bigotry of low expectations, why the Hispanic community has the power to demand a better education for their children, and more.

Do people understand that not educating American children to grade-level standards incrementally weakens the nation? In such a scenario, less capable young people enter the work force, and fewer people are available to make intelligent business decisions for companies that drive America’s economy.

Adults likely understand the importance of your point, but its a rarity for a child to understand that argument to the point of making it a compelling one for his school performance. That was in ‘97-‘98, though. Now, I can’t even give a child a D, even if they read at a 2nd grade level in 5th grade (a lot do) and refuse to do work (partly because we… Read more »
