Migrants at Navy Pier or McCormick Place? Alderperson says a central facility is better than neighborhoods for asylum-seekers. – WBEZ (Chicago)

“McCormick Place has lots of different facilities. If we had a large space that could accommodate like thousands of people, then we wouldn’t have to spend as much time kind of playing whack-a-mole on a bunch of smaller facilities..." said Ald. Maria Hadden. “There’s a reason that McCormick Place was stood up and put together as a COVID response place. Because from a logistics and emergency management perspective, it just would be ideal."

Wow. Take MPEA properties, convert them from high-margin revenue-generating tourism-convention venues, into non-revenue generating asylums. MPEA is a haven for high-paid ghost payrollers and former Daley administration operatives, generally clueless anyways. So yes, chase those last tourists away, scare-off the European visitors altogether, and watch the chaos unfold. If South Shore HS is asylum-shelter, given promised heavy-duty police presence, at least its resident-neighbors will finally receive significant increase in squad car patrols and police protection. British and European media reports note hotels and hostels which house “” migrants are typically totally trashed during duration of contracted occupancy-period, requiring full renovation… Read more »

Imagine the shock of moving from some favela in Caracas and settling in a neighborhood that is arguably worse. Maybe the newcomers see themselves as colonizers, looking to occupy and ultimately gentrify blighted south side neighborhoods. In two decades it will be known as ‘Little Caracas’ and the next progressive mayor will simply call it another wave of immigrants that help build this city.

Is this an admission that Navy Pier and McCormick Place will no longer be needed as attractions for tourists, since no one is coming?

So lets load them up in one place, kind of like a public housing project. How did that work out.

What about putting Velcro on the outside of the John Hancock/Willis Towers and others and have the jumpers wear Velcro clothing. This way they could “Stick” around anywhere.

Having a McCormick Place packed to the rafters with undocumented immigrants is going to be a political disaster for dems come dnc convention time in ’24’. But maybe that’s what Chicago & CTU/BRANDON are going to be forced to do? Im sure reps nationally get this. So, if your an Abbott, wouldnt you be skippen busing imagrants to NYC & elsewhere and busing 100% to sanctuary Chi-town…it’s game on!!!

I thinking, the City still has tons of fed COVID $cash$ left ($1.6 bil??) that that could be use for housing asylum seeker immigrants. But all kinds of other groups want to get their hands on the remaining COVID $cash (i.e. CTU). So, who or how CTU/Brandon divvies up the remaining COVID $cash$ will be interesting.
