Police said they are significantly increasing their presence downtown and near Millennium Park. They will also have bag checks at the beaches and lakefront. Police captains and executive members will also be leading platoons after reports of possible leadership confusion last time.

Promises of increased CPD police presence downtown…

Promises of enhanced CPD police at all migrant-shelter locations…

Given that CPD patrols are already understaffed, that there are no “extra” cops available, given that large areas of Chicago get little police presence ever, these are empty promises.

Add NASCAR to mix.

Add Brandon “let’s not demonize POC youth” naivete.

Expect a long hot summer.
