Another 52 shot, 10 murdered in Chicago this weekend. How long will Mayor Johnson avoid deterrence? – Wirepoints Quickpoint

By: Ted Dabrowski and John Klingner

How long will Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson stick with his “violence as a symptom of disinvestment” explanation that was widely criticized? His comments came last weekend after 12 Chicagoans were murdered and 53 shot.

Memorial Day weekend was a big test for the new mayor, whose investment in yellow-vest “Peacekeepers” and anti-violence programs failed to stem the bloodshed.

That weekend was bad enough, but now he’s got another weekend of 10 murdered and 52 shot (as of 5pm Sunday). From ABC7:

  1. A shooting in Austin Sunday left one person dead and six others wounded. A 25-year-old woman was killed in the shooting.
  2. Minutes earlier, a 34-year-old man was fatally shot and another was wounded downtown, police said.
  3. Hours later, another 30-year-old man was shot to death and a woman was wounded in Little Italy.
  4. A 40-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday night in front of a home in Chatham.
  5. Over an hour earlier, a 19-year-old man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting in Humboldt Park.
  6. A 70-year-old man was killed and another wounded in a shooting Saturday morning in Englewood on the South Side.
  7. Hours earlier, a 31-year-old man was fatally shot in the city’s South Shore neighborhood.
  8. Just under three hours earlier, a 32-year-old man was shot and killed in North Lawndale.
  9. About two hours before that, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot while sitting in his car in the Austin neighborhood.

Mayor-Elect Brandon Johnson’s focus on “root causes,” with little-to-no emphasis on containing today’s out-of-control violence, is a strategy doomed to fail. Tackling root causes is important, but they take a long time to address – if they can even be agreed to.

We wrote only a month ago that Johnson should count on the following if he won’t tamp down on crime immediately:

  • Crime will continue to pay.
  • Large number of Chicagoans will continue to be victimized.
  • 911 responses will continue to be delayed.
  • Minorities will continue to suffer most.
  • Cops will continue to leave
  • More and more dangerous felons will be released.
  • Chicago will continue to lead the nation in homicides.

For full details, read: What Chicago requires immediately is deterrence. Stop the bleed. Fast.

This is squarely the fault of all those folks that were too lazy to show up to vote. Pure and simple truth. I hope that only the folks that complain about this actually voted in the last election

I don’t necessarily agree with this. Voting patterns were almost entirely along racial lines, and assuming increased turnout along the same racial proportions, the outcome would be exactly the same. What you really mean to say is that too few white and non-communist hispanics showed up, and those that did were too few to outvote the blacks and die-hard progressives.

Maybe the “root cause” is letting repeat offenders out of jail over and over.

“Disinvestment”? Investment means risking capital in hopes of making a profit. What happens when “investors” take that risk in risky neighborhoods? Well for starters the local residents complain and call it “gentrification”. Values rise. And then Mayor Brandon Johnson will have his hand out to take more money from the poor he claims to be affected by a lack of investment. And every time there’s an incident somewhere caused by criminal activity and it doesn’t end well because the criminal refuses to obey lawful commands, the democrat media purposely enflames emotions rather than informing its viewers and the local residents… Read more »

Exactly right Doug. People vote in the voting booth as well as with their wallets. The people in these neighborhoods aren’t victims but rather just reaping the consequences of how they support local businesses with their money. They laugh when stores get robbed and then cry when the stores decide to leave. They want their neighborhood to be nicer but they just don’t get that their neighbors are the ones making it miserable. They want their neighborhood to be nicer but nicer neighborhoods with a great location near the lake makes it desirable. Desirable neighborhoods come with greater demand and… Read more »

Not totally true, government lackies vote at almost a 100% rate, normal complacent public 30% or so. You have gamed the system and look at what you have produced, Schitt. Businesses are fleeing as are the tens of thousands of families from what you have produced. No one laughs at crime, no one.

I would replace the word voter to recipients who vote. Most of the recipients vote to keep the status quo in place. Anyone getting something from the state as in food stamps/housing allowance/child care/pensions/health care/Medicaid/paychecks voted as recipients en masse. I would like to see the percentage of people that receive something from the government vs those who do not and would like to see see changes. Where do all the people who receive get their money or benefits from? Other taxpayers. You are probably close at 100% for receivers who vote and 30% for givers.

What did the Mayor’s new 40 “Peacekeepers” accomplish this weekend? Haven’t heard a thing from the Mayor’s office about how effective they were– and how well spent the money was. Maybe they were all taking cover behind their peace mobiles.

Once again, the city is sitting on $400m in COVID funds that Lighfoot set aside for anti-violence/ crime fighting but has used very little of. I’m sure now that CTU/Brandons in office all kinds of folks (CTU, etc) are looking for their $piece of the pie$. What’s CTU/Brandon going to do with those COVID $ is question nobodies asking.

The new debt ceiling deal provides for clawback of $30B of unspent Covid relief. I have not seen yet, however, whether that will hit IL and its cities.

How much fed COVID $bucks$ city has left probably only city knows? I read some articles that say $1.1 billion? but I don’t know if that includes $400m Lightfoot set aside for anti-violence? But you can be assured, behind the scenes everybody who was behind CTU/Brandons has got their hands out and would like to get their $equity$ handouts with NO QUESTIONS ASKED, just like all those fed billions where shoveled out of from city & state during COVID

Black lives don’t matter to Democrats — what matters are the black votes they get with their race hustle fraud

“Disinvestment shot those folks”, Mayor Johnson still places full responsibility on downtown (and suburban) corporations for shootings.

If we get an extended heat streak the numbers will get a lot worse. Then Mayor Moron will be able to identify the root cause as global warming. Or is it climate change? I forget, what is Greta calling it now?
