Five ways the Chicago mayor’s transition team wants him to improve schools – Chalkbeat Chicago

A man in a suit and tie smiles at a lectern while other people stand behind him.The city must figure out how to keep its finances stable as that federal money goes away, the report stresses. Some possibilities: a cannabis tax, donations from major corporations and other businesses, and tax changes to ensure “the wealthy pay their fair share.” And, the report says, the city should reverse a move by Lori Lightfoot to make the district pay millions of dollars in staff pension costs that the city used to cover.

Corporate donations? Imagine wanting, or deserving a raise and your company tells you, “we’ve already donated your raise” sorry. What could go wrong?

I’d wager most of the tech in CPS is donated by downtown IT departments.

Vouchers equal to the current per pupil expenditure which can be spent at any educational institution of the parents choice including faith based schools.

The system will howl but Johnny will be able to read again and Public school teachers will eventually retire in their 60s again like they used to.

Not a word about that fact that CPS hasn’t and won’t teach 8 out of 10 of it’s student’s to read, write and add at grade level.

Just more taxpayer funded nanny-state day care and free stuff, piled on top of all the money they waste now, camouflaged as ‘education.’

What a Great Society………

CPS doesn’t want to teach kids to read or write. They only want to teach students critical consciousness, so students graduate woke, and become activists, to agitate for more woke in schools. CPS doesn’t value traditional education of the 3R’s. I’m not exaggerating or making stuff up here. From an outsiders view, the 30,000 foot view, this is exactly what they are doing. In the recent past, CPS used to teach kids actual life skills but the drop rate neared 50%. Now, CPS teaches kids critical consciousness, and the drop out rate is 10% or less. Kids are ‘learning’ but… Read more »

Not a word addresses math and reading proficiency. Fire this transition team and get a new one.

One way to improve the outcomes for the children caught in the clutches of the CTU is to issue vouchers for school choice. Give the power to the parents, not the teachers.

I’m betting that in a year maybe a few token feel good giveaways will be accomplished off this progressive wet dream list while CTU walks away with giant pay raises, benefits, and most importantly getting rid of TIER II pensions

It’s fun building a wish list. It’s not fun prioritizing and culling a wish list.

Everyone in the photo is smiling. See, I knew the situation in Chicago wasn’t as bad as WP claims.

Lenin referred to these types as “useful idiots” – and we *know* what happened to them…

One of the first to go after the socialist revolutions is the educators.

You are correct. University professors were one of the first groups rounded up.

Yes, but, educators back then were often classically liberal, and that sent then straight to the gulag in authoritarian communist regimes. Today’s educators have learned from the past: to avoid the gulag, they must become communists themselves. And they have embraced communism. But when the fascist dictator takes over the US (and he will, likely in our lifetimes), and half the country supports really egregious measures, the educators will once again be rounded up, but this time they’re going to FEMA camps in the middle of Kansas for re-education. Next will be legacy media journalists. And let me tell you… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
