Cook County wants to spend about $14 million to buy two suburban hotels for the unhoused – WBEZ (Chicago)

For now, the county would spend about $7 million in federal pandemic dollars to buy the Margarita Inn in Evanston, and about $6.5 million to buy the Write Inn in Oak Park. While the county still wants to buy a hotel in the south suburbs to become a permanent shelter, Karl Bradley, deputy director of housing at Cook County, said some suburban governments don’t want to lose the tax base they generate from having hotels in town, for example.

At least these hotels are located in Leftist enclaves . Those people should get to enjoy the diversity that their demented leader has delivered to our nation.

Diversity is their strength. Importing thousands of unskilled, uneducated illegal immigrants OBVIOUSLY improves a neighborhood, DUH! Diversity brings strength. It’s the educated native English speaking deplorables that wreck neighborhoods with their BBQ’s, football parties, manicured lawns and well behaved children and skilled labor. OF COURSE

Finally, a bit of common sense out in Frisco… threaten to take your business elsewhere, though I doubt that might work here. Some excerpts from this article here: Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff says San Francisco cleaned up its troubled downtown after he pressured City Hall https://fortune.com/2023/09/14/salesforce-marc-benioff-san-francisco-clean-up/ “Salesforce Inc. Chief Executive Officer Marc Benioff said he pushed San Francisco officials to clean up the city before his company’s annual conference began in its hometown this week and is happy with the results. “We put a lot of pressure on the city this year,” Benioff said Wednesday during a press event. “It… Read more »

Watch Michael Shellenberger’s video on YouTube about Progressives inability to solve the problems of homelessness; it’s an eye opener. San Francisco spends 10x the amount of ANY city in the country, he explains how it’s on big grift where everyone is protecting their fiefdom, it’s sickening to watch, it’s all Liberals.

Exactly! There is a now a “Homeless – Industrial Complex” that sucks up BILLIONS to “solve” homelessness, yet the problem is only exploding – just look at Portland, Frisco, Seattle… Closer to home we see it especially in Evanston, where the corpulent and corrupt homeless “non – profit” Connections for the Homeless is aided and abetted in their “work” by a woke city government and clueless Evanston libtard voters/supporters. In four years, Connections for the Homeless went from a $3.5 million outfit to a $15 million dollar outfit – yet they continually cry “But the homeless problem is increasing!” I… Read more »

Its not shocking its Evanston the taxpayers who were never slave owners paid reparations to people that were never slaves. Stop complaining Chicago always votes for Dems you know who they are what they are and how they put Americans last. You get what you vote for so own it.

And when these private properties convert to county-owned properties, they will become exempt from property taxes, removing $150-200K of much needed revenue from those cities’ tax rolls.

A place no lib Chicago or CC pol wants to go—Just like in the city, which has tons of available space/ facilities in empty or barely uses CPS schools and empty commercial space in predominantly Black (dis-invested) communities that could be used for at minimal expense for ‘new arrival’ migrants, CC as-well has mountains of empty realesate in predominantly Black south suburbs that could be used for ‘new arrival’ migrants as-well. But instead wants to buy hotels in tony Evanston & Oak Park???????

In Evanston Connections for the Homeless, which now runs the former Margarita Inn as a shelter, explains that a shelter adjacent to downtown is all about “equity” and “anti – racism”. Of course, out of the 60 shelter residents, less than ten are from Evanston, the rest being “bussed in” to inflate Connection’s numbers and thus gobble up more million in funding. Another “fun fact” – Connections CEO Betty Bogg (who is white) lives in Portage Park, and the other two top Connections staffers (also white) live in Skokie, lol… Excerpts from an article: https://evanstonnow.com/connections-rejects-alternate-shelter-site/ Connections rejects alternate shelter site… Read more »

Yup, in Evanston we had NO say in the matter, the concerns of the immediate neighbors to this Evanston shelter were ignored (even though “meetings” were held), and of course we were totally gaslighted by Evanston’s socialist mayor, city council members, “religious” groups, and Connections for the Homeless, who directed the whole shameful shee – bang. A number of us spoke out vociferously against the shelter at city council and zoning meetings, to no avail. And the same was done in Rogers Park, because alderman Maria Hadden is a socialist, intent on destroying all that she touches: https://blockclubchicago.org/2023/02/24/rogers-park-homeless-shelter-proposal-gets-city-approval-allowing-for-planned-summer-opening/ Rogers Park… Read more »

Here’s a Letter to the Editor I wrote, opposing the Margarita Inn in Evanston. Of course, the libtards that live here pay no heed to facts; I also formerly worked for Connections for the Homeless, so I know what I’m talking about: Letter to the editor: Supporting Margarita Inn is a mistake By Gregory Morrow – September 29th, 2022 “Because of the Connections for the Homeless “hands off” approach towards substance abuse, I oppose their purchase of the Margarita Inn as a permanent shelter. Of course, and Tony Preckwinkle supports this. Here she is for a photo op with socialist mayor Biss in front of the shelter in Evanston. “Karl Bradley, deputy director of housing at Cook County, said there are hotels that are used as shelters in the south suburbs. That was news to Moore.

“Over three years ….we don’t even know who the referring agencies are or who the hotels are that are doing this in our districts,” Moore said.

“Commissioner, you’ve highlighted our need to expand our marketing,” Bradley responded.”

Hmmm. The solution to Black homelessness in Cook County is to lie better about what’s not working.

Well now, there’s a dose of dynamic new-n-transparent leadership for you.

Problem solved, what’s up next?

Yup, then the idiots wonder why Evanston’s downtown is dying. They don’t seem to realize that spending millions of dollars on homeless shelters/services adjacent to downtown is attracting crime and vagrants, thus driving people away. The leftists running the place of course have no economic smarts, and they merrily drive businesses and customers away with their penny – ante anti – business socialist rules…

I love the Oak Park, and Evanston location selections. No one can object to the placement of the migrant housing without being ostracized from polite society in these communities. In the long run, however, the powers that be will leverage the compliance for Oak Park and Evanston to silent other communities. These are just small bullets that the leftists need to take to move the ball forward. Some eggs need to be broken……..

The only issue will be when they start creeping into all of our communities. The messaging from all of the people should be “send them back” – not put them in certain communities – it will affect all of us sooner or later. We are already seeing an increase in Crime in suburbs all around us.

“it will affect all of us sooner or later.” That’s the point. The smartest thing these governors did was to start shipping migrants to all the liberal sanctuary cities. Now those liberal cities will start to ship them out to the suburbs. Eventually it will reach a breaking point where people change their voting habits or they will learn to live with it because they hate the alternative even worse. Even people that love the idea of letting in asylum seekers don’t ever offer up their own home for these people to stay. It’s no different than all the spending… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
