Voters in Michigan are overwhelmingly opposed to the state contributing taxpayer funds to two battery plants in Michigan being built by American companies in partnership with companies affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). By a staggering 72% to 11% margin, Michigan voters do not want their tax dollars going to these projects.
That’s according to a new survey by Marketing Resource Group. Details on the poll are here.
The Gotion project proposed for Manteno, Illinois is nearly identical to the Gotion project in Michigan, which is one project the poll is about, though not named.
State and local politicians are behind the curve on voter attitudes toward China. This new poll is consistent with national polls showing that Americans are fed up with Chinese theft of American technology and brazen spying. The Biden Administration itself reset our relationship on these matters with China in 2022, reversing the open door policy that had prevailed for several decades preceding. But state and local politicians are living in that past.
If you read Wirepoints’ articles on the proposed Gotion factory for Manteno – all collected here – you’ll find that the project is monumentally irresponsible, wasteful and dangerous.

If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
I’m honestly curious if those who object to this plant were supportive of Trump’s partnership with Foxconn in announcing their factory in Wisconsin. The GOP-led state approved $3 billion in tax subsidies, and even spent $500M buying land for their Communist friends.
This isn’t a “gotcha” question. I’m generally in agreement with the sentiment, but too often we see opinions on these things based on whose team is making the decision.
The devil is in the details. Gotion is a Chinese CCP with strong connections to the CCP. Foxconn is a Taiwanese company that happens to have factories in China. You have to go back in history to understand Taiwan. This is the very, very short version, but Taiwan was essentially feral until the 1,600s. After ‘discovery’ by Europe it was ruled by the Dutch and Spanish for a short period of time, until the Qing dynasty took it over in the late 1600’s. Fast forward now to the late 19th century. After China lost the Sino-Japanese war in 1895, China… Read more »
Great lesson as usual. It’s important to understand the dynamics of Taiwan because it is free market economy which is quite advanced in the areas of technical achievements. China continues to steal intellectual property in order to copy it until it’s perfected. Fat Fredo is cozying up to communist China with known high level CCP ties. It should not have ever been allowed access to negotiating with US politicians, federal, state, or local who are too corruptible with $$$. I really hope this blows up in his face, the arrogance of this guy is out of control.
Will MI actually take the will of the people into consideration or simply disregard what they want as, seemingly, the powers that be in Manteno have chosen to do. It’s really not a stretch to infer that Pritzger and Whitmer are both cut from the same cloth and will act in the same manner. The slick, covert nature of the Manteno “ deal “ speaks volumes.
So? Nobody cares what voters want.
FJB, no offense, but that’s the obvious question. Instead of just asking that, useful commenters think through questions like that and at least give their own perspective on the answer. Even better, add some original facts that help answer the question.
Building this plant will create lots of construction jobs. Running this plant will create thousands of jobs for decades to come. The auto industry is going electric.
Jobs is something that provides for a good standard of living. Illinois democrats like it when everyone is on welfare.
Mark, I am surprised you do not support it or have you now become a democrat.
Pritzker better not be counting on Michigan for his presidential bid.
Mark, I wouldn’t normally reply to the same article more than once, but your comment on Pritzker caused me acute apoplexy! Can you think of a more narcissistic, self-absorbed, trust fund ne’er-do-well thinking he could be elected president of the USA! He must have the most parasitic sycophants money can buy.
Peter, don’t count Pritzker out as a presidential candidate. While I think he’d do poorly in a general election, he is positioned as well as anybody to get the nomination. I think it’s very unlikely Biden can last until January 2024, the next swearing in. Democratic insiders would probably love to see him make it through the nomination, then push him out, or he drops out voluntarily, or drops over — before general election in. In that situation, the Dem National Committee picks the replacement candidate. What a dream for Dem power brokers and the deep state.
Everyone knows Biden isn’t really acting in the presidential capacity. The people behind Biden, who are truly running the office, have shown zero inclination to give up their power. They parade the dementia patient around, with just yesterday Jill assisting him off stage, as a taunt to any uppity striver with aspirations to try and usurp the seat from Biden. They send him out every day, and he falls down, says insane things, gets lost and looked confused, he takes ‘lids’ (a new word they literally made up word to describe when Biden is having a bad day, and he… Read more »
Pritzker pays his sycophants well and they are very good at their job. Don’t underestimate Pritzker and his daddys money. Pritzker has very smartly spent his daddys money on very talented advisors. During the pandemic his policies and his public statements were polished and exactly what the brainless democrat voter base expected and wanted to hear. He doesn’t blow his nose without consulting a poll. Pritzker is very disciplined and he will be formidable nationally. I do think that the marshmallow IL press has never challenged him so he will be vulnerable to difficult questions but…..how much of a true… Read more »
JB has zero chance of going anywhere in the Dem. primaries. A morbidly obese billionaire j _ _ _ _ h candidate has got zero chance of winning nationally. I not knocking him for his religion or ethnicity, i don’t care personally, but the Democrat Party absolutely cares – it is everything. Have you seen the polls lately? Half the younger Democrat voting base takes Palestine’s side over Israel in the conflict which is likely a reflection of changing Democrat demographics. The Democrats play the identarian politics game, and the guys like JB play the game too, hoping that by… Read more »
For many years people have fought Wal Mart from opening up Mega Stores in their hometowns. After it opens it is packed with the very same people who fought against it.
What a ridiculous an irrelevant observation. At least try harder if you’re going to troll.
A vote for Pritzker is a vote for Communist China. That’s a fact.
Basically, Illinois will have one employer: Government. This will be divided into two groups: Government “workers” and welfare recipients. That is why the CCP plant will be built. Sad state of affairs for a state I have liver in for my entire 67 years.
Like it or not, Illinois should take whatever it can get. Businesses are fleeing (chased away) in large numbers. Do not look a gift horse in the mouth. I am not for or against the plant, but soon only government jobs will be left in Illinois. It will bring about a lot of economic activity which creates many more jobs. Like I said, I do not care as I am leaving this economic disaster state soon.
Illinois isn’t taking its giving! $8 billion in taxpayer subsidies, $536 million of which is from Illinois, for a plant that will only cost $2 billion to build. And that money will be handed to a CCP company. Haven’t you read even one of our articles on this?
… and how many of those subsidies will end up in the pockets of Illinois enablers and union scale IL contractors
We can trust the Chinese recipients to tell us who they are spreading it around to, don’t you think?
I read the articles on Gotion. Who is going to build a plant in Illinois in their right minds? No one is the answer. The plant will provide lots of jobs and those people will spend their earnings locally and help create more jobs and lots of tax revenue. Not that Illinois has ever cared about businesses and jobs, they have chased away most good companies. Don’t build the plant, lots of other states will take it. The question is not will the plant be built, but where the plant will be built. Take it or leave it, does not… Read more »
Who wouldn’t build a $2 billion plant in exchange for a handout of $8 billion? The Chinese aren’t stupid.
Please take the Gotion plant with you wherever you are leaving to.
News Flash – Gotion isn’t going to build this plant for three reasons. 1. Chinese promises of foreign investment are fleeting, at best. Chinese have been attempting at building various projects around the world, the most high profile of late being the “Forest City” in Malaysia, which is a complete disaster. 2. Gotion has promised at least four plants around the world, including Germany, Morocco, MI and now IL, in addition to buying up other factories and suppliers around the world. Gotion is only the 4th biggest chinese EV battery manufactur with a less than 5% market share, and is… Read more »
Michigan is Michigan and Illinois is Illinois. Real polls are taken on election day and in Illinois the free stuff army is soundly behind Pritzker and those are some hard numbers to over come,,,just sayin
King Porkchop doesnt have time for public opinion polls. He is too busy plotting his path on the green climate highway to the WhiteHouse.
Actually, I think polls are the one thing he does have time for. This should get his attention.
The commie doesn’t care about public opinion. Communism is never popular, it’s usually very unpopular. The commie knows that people won’t like what he is doing. But he does the unpopular things anyway, because he sees himself as a revolutionary. “You can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs” is Stalin’s favorite saying. JB feels the same way. He knows his mask mandates were unpopular, he knows his coronavirus restrictions were unpopular, and widely ignored outside of Cook County. But he didn’t care, and he was reelected with 55% of the vote. JB is going to give you Gotion, and there’s… Read more »
I have your same notion / about Gotion
That’s right, and as long as he controls the media he’s not worried. The media is beholden to him because of how much he spends on campaign ads. We saw that when he got them to pull the “Scream” campaign commercial and shut down the printing of opposing political ads.
It’s true. Pritzker is evil.
Yes, this is true. It works out well because the newspapers also happen to agree with everything he says.
We need an army of lawyers to decipher the rules and file suit after lawsuit in both Federal and State courts to stop this one and deny the win. There are so many rules and regulations that can be used to stop this factory from being built. I am sure you can “find” some kind of endangered butterfly, worm or plant that only lives in NE Illinois that this factory will impact. Another alternative is to send in the climate sjw warriors to protest the concrete which will be used. They can glue their hands to the roads and disrupt… Read more »
