Illinois public education spends $24,000 per child…and yet 1.2 million students can’t read at grade level. – Wirepoints on the Annie Frey Show

Ted joined the Annie Frey Show to talk about Wirepoints’ new report on the 67 Illinois schools where not a single child tested proficient in math and the 32 schools with zero students proficient in reading. What’s worse, officials end up graduating almost 70 percent of the students in those schools.

$24,000/yr X 13 years of school = $312,000. No readers, no writers. No ciphering. Two or three times in the course of their matriculation through the system students are tested for proficiency. Yet, no one catches the deficiencies. Time to test the teachers. Time to offer cash to the child’s supervising adult to shop elsewhere, renewal annually only upon successful completion of a proficiency test. While we are at it, call it reparations for slavery. Otherwise, productive citizens and successful businesses may start to leave, taking their tax dollars elsewhere. All will become chaotic. Oh wait…that sounds far fetched!

Everyone of these children can… Read more »

To begin with it is a “study” that fits within the assorted “studies” that so often seem tailored to a certain outcome. Next it is restricted to English and language arts that are so often subjectively graded as opposed to the objective grading generally used in Science and Math classes. Considering the sources why does the headline not surprise me?
